First Semester Schedule

I was thinking about the classes I wanted to take first semester, and I ended up with an 18 credit schedule! I don't really think I should start my freshman year with tons of classes, but I feel like I should take all of them. Here's a list of the classes I want to take, and a little explanation:

Gen Chem - I'm premed, so I have to.

CS 2110 Object Oriented Programming - I really want to take a programming class since I might major in CS.

Calculus II - I really like math, and I want to continue from last year.

A Spanish class - I enjoy Spanish and want to get the foreign language requirement out of the way.

FWS - It's required.

Is this too stressful of a schedule for an incoming freshman? I really want to be able to join clubs and meet people too, not spend my whole time cooped up in my room studying. I'm trying to figure out which one I should drop... Any advice would really be appreciated!

18 credits isn’t bad. If you ever decide to major in CS, 18 credits is average, and many students take ~20 credits.

Keep your current schedule, and drop if you feel it’s too much once the classes actually start. There is no penalty in dropping as long as it’s in the first 2~3 weeks.

You could probably take Calc II in the spring if you really want to drop a class. That already seems like a pretty good workload without it.

why would you be a CS major if you’re also premed? I’m just curious about what your future career goals might look like.

calc 2, spanish, and gen chem will require a ton of work on your part – i recommend you drop one

Thanks! I think I’ll try doing all 5, and then drop during the first 2-3 weeks if I feel like the workload is too much! I’m not sure what exactly I want to do yet, but I really enjoy programming, so I was thinking about CS. Plus, who knows how course selection is going to work out for me haha.

That might be a bit busy, especially with Spanish.

I would definitely wait to take Spanish…it requires a lot of work every day and will definitely get in the way of your more important requirements and classes.
