So I'm currently enrolled at California State Polytechnical University, Pomona. I chose this school because up to late June/early July I wanted to study Engineering. so I enrolled because out of all the schools this was the best for me and my major. Then I was decided to study economics because I loved the class That I took during my senior high school year. I enjoyed all the topics and was something i could picture doing fin the future. So then i research and found out that Cal Poly Pomona had economics as a major, so i decide to go on and stay there. Just recently, I have been questioning my decision and now I'm not sure if i want attend Cal Poly. So i contemplated not attending Cal Poly pomona anymore(I've registered, attended orientation, and I'm currently enrolled in 3 classes, waitlisted in 1, but I have NOT paid the tuition fees. School starts Sept. 22). I've Been thinking about this and arrived at two conclusions:
1: I've thought about finishing this fall quarter, and somehow transfer those credits to California State University, Fullerton( this is the school my high school teacher attended and I spoke to him yesterday and he recommended this school) Or canceling my attendance at Cal Poly and Apply to Fullerton(or another school in which I can get accepted to with high school grades. GPA=3.86, AP Calculus AB & BC= 5, SAT approx. 1400, ACT=21( will retake both if I decide to apply to another school. the scores are low because i took them at the beginning of my junior year) for the next available enrollment date.

I thought about completing my General Education at Cal Poly Pomona and then transfer to one of the major school for economics (Harvard, Yale, University Of Chicago). I will contact these schools to see what classes I need to take in order to be eligible for a transfer.

Which would you recommend? and why? and if there is anything else would need to do or forgot to mention please let me know. Thanks in advance!

I would def. stick to the plan and attend this fall! You already said it, but maybe take some general courses and one econ (?). A lot of students start to panic when it comes time to actually go. Go this fall, and get involved, then decide what you want to do from there (and get the best grades possible!). There is no mistake in taking some college credits now either way, and I don’t see CSF as a better plan if you really do decide to transfer later (to a top university, etc.). Just stick to plan A would be my advice. Also, can you wait to decide on a major at Cal Poly? Many students change majors throughout their 4 years (or 6 yrs. if they changed majors a lot, lol!), so is there really a rush to decide?

Well I’m not nervous or in panic about college is just that i was wondering what would be a better choice. If i go this fall and decide to transfer do i need to wait until the school year is over or can i transfer as soon as the fall quarter is over? Well my plans were to transfer from cal poly to a top university was because Cal Poly’s economics department is not as good as CSUF. so If I attend CSUF i would get my degree from there and then go to a top university for graduate studies. For Cal Poly I have to declare a major by the end of my first year. Well i in no rush but i would like to take courses that count toward what I want to major in and not waste my time and money.

Ok, I see what you are saying. You can transfer right after the first quarter to another school, but many schools will not accept students half way through the year, so keep that in mind when you start your list of potential schools. The deadlines may be right about now (or even already passed) so that may limit where you can apply for second semester/quarter. I’m not familiar with either school enough to tell you which school will be better from admissions perspective (I only know that their regional rankings are extremely close). Either way, work your butt off if you intend to transfer “up”.

I can’t offer you much in terms of opinions on this other than I would just make the decision and go with it. My mom has a phrase I love, “paralysis by analysis”. Sometimes you just have to make the decision in other words. Don’t wait for clarity that will never come. You may get all kinds of opinions and none of them really matter as much as what you feel in your gut.

Anyone else know more about Cal S Poly and CS Fullerton, that can help OP more?

Thanks I’ve decide to work hard and get the list of courses required to transfer to a Top school so I will attend CAL POLY and then transfer. Thanks a lot!!!
