First Time Laptop User

Hey you guys I a graduating high school senior and I'm off to college this summer and I have never personally owned a laptop before so I don't really know what to get and was hoping if you guys can help me out

the things I look for in a laptop are:

*storage (i use up a lot of space so I want a computer that can handle all the storage I want) oh has at LEAST two USB Drives

*built in webcam (skype friends from different colleges... getting it separately would be too much of a hassle for me and it might get lost)

*accessible (meaning it's easy for me to take it places doesn't give me a hassle)

*and long battery life (I want to be able to charge it at night and take it with me through out the day without needing to carry around the charger)

price isn't a factor

you guys can put out suggestions because other than that i'm pretty clueless on the laptop situation

Get a macbook. The new macbook pro is great, great battery life, and you can upgrade the hd. Most laptops come with built in cam and at least 3 usb ports ( unless you get the mini ones, mac, Toshiba HP or whatever that usually comes with 2) but you can always find a multi usb adapter. Most of the laptops nowadays are light enough and super portable. With a Toshiba or mac you cant go wrong. But of course Toshiba are cheaper than macs so you could end up with a Toshiba that works like an airplane for the same price you could get a Mac that works like a mustang or even ferrari but not like an airplane lol.

thanks I’ll definitely look into those two

any more suggestions

I’ll second the Toshiba. I got one last August and it’s a beast. This is similar to what I got: [Toshiba Satellite® A665-S6092 16.0" widescreen Laptop](<a href=“Dynabook | Laptops, Smart Glasses and Accessories for School or Business | us.Dynabook.com”>Dynabook | Laptops, Smart Glasses and Accessories for School or Business | us.Dynabook.com)

I will say that it doesn’t have a long battery life though. Unfortunately if you’re going to be using your computer heavily throughout the day, not many laptops are going to have enough battery life. Look into a 13" model if you’re going to be carrying it around too. 2" doesn’t seem like much but you definitely feel it after carrying it around all day. The smaller computers generally have better battery life because their components aren’t as power-hungry.

OK thanks…

I want to know do any of these come with Microsoft or would I have to buy it separately

or can I just go without it

and do any of these computers have their own WiFi hot-spot or would I have to set up with another company

You can get Microsoft word at a student discounted rate and load it onto whichever computer you choose to buy.
About having it’s own wifi HotSpot. That’s unnecessary bc at your college campus wifi will be available and be free for you to use. Also these days there are free hot spots almost everywhere.
Fast food joints, Starbucks, local cafes, bookstores and so on all provide free wifi usage.
Also for choosing a laptop I’d go w a MacBook or MacBook Pro. I have one and love it. I’ve had it for nearly 4 years and still no problems or issues w it at all.

Do they come with Microsoft? Microsoft what? Microsoft is a company. Do you mean Windows? Yes they come with Windows. Do you mean stuff like Word, Excel, etc? No, they will not come with those programs, you will need to buy Microsoft Office separately. There is a student discount for these programs.

how do i get the discount is this for all computers or just specific laptops

http://www.microsoft.com/student/

There is all the Microsoft student stuff. Other companies will have their own programs. Look around for their deals.
