First time taking ACT (September). How should I prepare?

I've taken the SAT twice as a junior, and I've decided to take the ACT to see how well I can do. However, I have received no prep for the ACT, and I am wondering what I should do. I am aiming for a score between 30-33, before the time I apply to colleges (November-December). What should I do.

Background info: 3.82/4.0 Unweighted GPA, 2120 SAT score.

There are very good study books available at the library. I would suggest borrowing some and looking over the material covered. Most prep books include numerous practice tests. I suggest using these to master the art of pacing yourself through each section. It doesn’t matter how much you know if you don’t finish before time is up!

Which books do you recommend? The red book? Should I take the online course ACT offers on the website?

You have a good chance of getting that 30-33 or even higher. I got a 2110 on my SAT and got a 35 on the ACT.
I recommend using the practice tests on sparknotes to get a feel for the timing of the ACT. Doing the practices helped me develop good strategies for reading efficiently with enough time leftover for a quick double-check.

I’d recommend the ACT for dummies book. It has neat tips and tricks that I found really useful. I only used it for the reading and english sections though. [I got a 36 on both math and science …]
For science, be sure that you’re familiar with basic physics, chem, bio, and general graph reading [fun fun fun fun graaaphs]

Know what you have trouble with. This way, you know what to work on. I am good with writing essays when I am given enough time; however, if I’m rushed, I lose detail and adherence to correct grammar. This resulted in a 7 for my essay score [blah… I’m going to retake the ACT] and a 34 for english [curse you, grammar…]

I got the Barron’s book , pretty much useful it was .
