First-Timers: The Stressed Parents Thread

Thanks. It is a strong choice (top 3)...probably number one if money wasn't an issue...so it will just depend on financial package available.

Beachmom - YEAAAA for son!! Congratulations!

Congrats!! Amazing!!

Thanks to all of you...I just can't wait to see where all of our kids end up!:)

Congrats beachmom!! Tell him we are ALL thrilled. That is one of my D's choices (acting only) also. Continue to keep fingers crossed! :)

Fingers crossed Poohie57...:)

Would appreciate advice...do you think it is a good idea for a high school senior who is waitlisted for a university MT program to show up to spring auditions for that university's Fall Musical? The musicals are open to all students at the school, but they obviously give presidence to the MT majors. We know that the chances of her making the show are remote...but we are thinking that it couldnt hurt to "show them her stuff" one more time and show that she is still very interested in attending that school. Glad to have found this board. :) PS. It is a Sunday 3 hour drive to and from the school.

To be honest, I have never heard of even ACCEPTED high school seniors attending auditions at a college while still in high school for the coming fall production. Is that happening at this college? I can't imagine seniors traveling from all over to the college to audition for the fall show. It would seem that auditions would take place in the fall for freshmen or else the show not be open to freshmen. This is a new one to me. That said, it seems a little odd for them to let a waitlisted student audition for a show as they can't risk casting a student who may not be attending. I may not be understanding the situation here.

When they emailed the high school students to let them know that they were accepted, they also invited them to the auditions. When my daughter emailed the theatre dept 2 days ago asking for audition information, they gave it to her and they did not say that she couldn't audition.

I've never heard of anything like this! I would double-check and SPECIFICALLY ask if she's being invited to audition. If the answer is yes, sure -- why not go for it? But it would be embarassing to show up ready to audition, only to find out that she's only allowed to observe.

OK, now I have read where your D is accepted and it is a university that seems to draw mostly from within that state and before I had this image of kids having to fly in from around the country just to audition for the fall musical while they were still in high school!

As well, I am now wondering if you mean that your D is ACCEPTED to the university itself but simply is waitlisted for the MT program. Is that the case? IF THAT IS THE CASE, and since you say that anyone at the school can get into a musical and need not be in the BFA program, and they invited incoming students to already audition for the fall show, then she could audition because she'd be an incoming freshman at the university but may not end up being in the BFA in MT program. IF she is not admitted at all and is waitlisted for MT and has no guarantee of being admitted to this school, I can't see how she'd be cast as she may not be coming. But if she is going to be attending the university itself, that's a different situation and apparently the production is open to all majors. In the situation, I suppose she should go. If she is not admitted to the university AT ALL, I can't see auditioning.

I do not know which parts of my message are assumptions or real though.

Thanks so much soozievt for your replies. She has been accepted to the university, has received an academic scholarship to the school, but is waitlisted for the MT program. All students at the school can audition for the show. She emailed the MT dept head, told him who she was and she expressed her interest in auditioning. He replied that the auditions require singing 32 bars etc. So I interpret that as "yes you may audition."

Now that I understand that she is accepted to the university and the fact that any incoming freshmen may audition and not just BFA in MT students, she should audition, sure. That was not clear in the first post on this situation. Given the correspondence you just described, it also points to her auditioning for the show. It is good that she'll be seen. Still keep in mind that a waitlist is a good outcome because that means you have what it takes to get in but there was not room for you. No matter how well she auditions for the show, however, she can only get off the waitlist if slots open up. They already know they like her enough to place her on the waitlist. If this is the ONLY school she applied to (I believe you posted that elsewhere), she should continue to get involved and try out for shows there since any student can participate.

nervousma, I don't think that this would be a problem as long as it's okay with the school, and also as long as your D plans to attend this school regardless of the outcome of the MT waitlist.

Anyone heard anything from Boston University or Emerson??? I know letters should go out soon, but wondering if anyone has gotten calls or emails from either of those schools. Thanks...I'm just going crazy here:) trying to make trip reservations for visits:)

Do you mean BOCO? If so 5:30 Friday online--Emerson April 1st, I think. Don't know about BU.

No, I was looking for BU...but thanks.

The BU general admissions are to be posted 3/30 or 3/31 according to posts on the BU decision thread. I don't know if the CFA decisions go out at the same time? I hope so. My D is waiting to hear. She auditoned in Chicago. I have not heard of any phone calls.

There is a BU thread under ARTS majors, and nobody is posting there yet.

Thanks Kansas city and letsfigureitout...I'll have to add those threads to my group:)
