First week in April

I got my acceptance today (through courier). Am from Toronto... so you will most definitely get some kind of response soon...

aw thanks, you guys are very supportive. I still haven't gotten anything yet, but they only sent it Monday. I have a feeling I won't get in and I can handle the rejection, I just can't handle the waiting to know where I'm gonna be for the next four years! :)

My daughter was waitlisted... was told she is in next round of 30-40 students to be accepted, but will have to wait till first week of May to find out. She is now concentrating on Pratt or MICA. We will be visiting MICA this Friday on our way to vacation. Does anyone know the chances of space opening up at RISD? And if they would even consider grants or scholarships at that point for someone who is waitlisted?

Just becareful because your tuition deposit and reponse to MICA have to be postmarked by May 1st. I'd say wait until you hear what she'll be getting for financial aid from MICA, which should be sent out around the 13th and decide then. Just don't wait until after May 1st. (sorry I didn't apply to Pratt so I don't know their deadlines)

i heard that every year risd creates 5 groups on the waitlist consisting of 20 people each. they admit up to 60 people on that waitlist.

some people on the facebook group said they called the office for their decisions.

Just delievering info.

OMigosh. I got IN! I thought I was gonna get flat out rejected. I wish you the best of luck.:)

Way to go Alison! It's 8:40 a.m. here and I'm just waiting.

I'll let you all know.

Kathismom

pfft, can I say I told you so now? :-p

Still nothing in the mail today. Alison, was the envelope big/thick?

It was a packet, it wasn't thick, it only contains a slim folder. It says RISD in big letters and congratulations on the front. I hope that helps. They waited until monday to mail them appreantly, so if you are in Colorado then its probably still on its way. Sorry, I know the feeling. I was so nervous that I got up at 7 today and I'm on break. :(

i googled risd acceptances earlier in the week to see if people had started to hear things and this thread popped up and has been really helpful haha. i'm in florida and i got my letter in the mail today and i got into RISD. good luck to others still waiting to hear!

Well, I sent a letter to RISD this a.m. and they sent the news right to my daughters email. She did not get in. Not even waitlisted. And this is with a unweighted gpa of over 3.8, letters of recommendation, tons of art classes and good SAT's (I don't know the scores offhand) and a visit to the campus before even going to the pre-college thing last summer.

So, it's off to California College of Arts in San Fran and Oakland for her which is a LOT closer and easier to get to than RI and she can take creative writing there as well.

Good luck to those of you who got in. As a mom, I want my children to have what they want and this is what she really wanted so I am sad.

Nothing here in L.A. yet. Maybe today....

kathismom-Thats really tough, I'm really surprised with those kind of acdemics that she wasn't admitted, I mean an 3.8 unweighted gpa? Thats better than mine. If it helps at all, on the RISD website they said they had the highest amount of applicants this year than ever before. Therefore, it was much more competetive. On college board RISD's acceptance rate has been 35%. According to their website, they accepted 420 freshamn out of the 2,750 applicants. This is a 15.3% acceptance rate. It has gotten alot harder to get in and although I can't tell you for sure, there may be a good chance that she would've been admitted if she applied on a different year. She sounds like a very strong student and I'm sure she'll do really well in college no matter where she attends.

Small thin envelope arrived today=likely rejection. It'll be a sad ending for her spring break when she returns.
Congratulations to all whose dreams have come true. I wish you much success!

kathismom, did your daughter consider Art Center in Pasadena?

We did look at them but she is into illustration and said just yesterday how surprised she is that she liked the west coast schools and is ending up at CCA. She had initially expressed interest in Pratt, Parsons, Chicago and then decided she likes smaller campuses better. She didn't want to even look at Otis or consider the LA/Southern Cali area (darn).

As long as she is happy, I'm happy.

After a pretty hellish acceptance/rejection process, it looks like my daughter is leaning towards SMFA. She is going to see SCAD this weekend, and we will likely go to Boston next weekend to see SMFA!
