I apologize if this has been asked already.

On the financial aid website, it says that 2009 Federal Tax Returns need to be received by February 1. My parents said they definitely will not have the documents by this time, and most likely no one else will either.

I sent an e-mail to the financial aid office (and have not received a reply yet), but do we need to send a letter requesting an extension, even though most applicants will not have the documents by this time?

Also, the FAFSA website states that the application must be completed using 2009 Federal Tax Returns, while many of my financial aid application due dates, including Villanova, are February 1.

Edit// I looked on another thread about the last question. It is acceptable to estimate?

Thank you.

We’re in the same situation (I’m the parent) - no way we’ll have tax returns by 2/1. I’m planning on calling tomorrow. Makes me worry since I have heard that Villanova has a bad rep for FA.

I wonder if they made a mistake. I have never filed taxes of my own so I wouldn’t know for sure, but my parents said that 2009 Federal Tax Returns be available until the end of January for everyone. Maybe they meant 2008 Tax Returns, or 03/01.
I sent them an e-mail maybe 4 days ago and have yet to receive a reply. Please let me know if you find out anything!

Yea, I think they mean estimates or what not…

But the thing is, they want signed copies of the actual 2009 Tax Return forms. We don’t even receive the forms by the end of January.

I apologize for double posting, but I just received the e-mail from the financial aid offices. According to them, if you cannot send documentation of 2009 Federal Tax Returns by February 1, you need to provide a letter stating when you will be able to send the documents.
Very strange. I wonder if anyone is able to send it by this deadline.

I was just about to start a thread on this same exact topic, but then i saw this. yay for attentiveness!!

But seriously, this whole Feb. 1st deadline is a little ridiculous. The FAFSA and CSS were completed and submitted on my behalf a while ago, but we just got the W-2’s like yesterday, and are still missing some more documents in order to file the 2009 income tax returns. I made copies of the W-2’s and stated in a written statement that as soon as we complete the tax return we will forward it to them.

My question though, is why make the deadline Feb. 1st if they are well aware of the fact that practically NOBODY will be able to complete their 2009 tax return by that date?! All it seems to do is cause stress. villanova is the only school i’ve applied to that requires the 2009 tax returns so early, and i’ve heard they’re already bad with fin. aid to begin with. arghhh

One of the letters from Villanova said that if you can not submit your tax forms to them by 2/1 they need a letter from the student (postmarked no later than 2/1) stating when you and your parents will send in the tax forms. It was also a question on the CSS.
Good luck.

I sent them a letter requesting an extension a few days ago. We also did not receive the W-2s until a yesterday or the day before, and we’re still missing a few documents.
