Hey guys!
I'm kind of new here, so please bide with me if I'm posting this in the incorrect place. I have a question about the GPA colleges receive when I apply. Do they see individual years or just the average of your years? I would like to know this because when I first switched to the American system half way through the year I didn't really get the hang and ended up with a GPA of 3.2. But after that I haven't dropped below a 3.85 in any of my quarters, and I also took IB classes. So if colleges see my transcript, will they frown upon my first year's GPA?
Thank You

Every high school has various ways of reporting information on their transcripts. Some list semester, midterm, and end of the year grades. Others list only end of the year grades. Still others list each quarter grades, midterm, semester grades, and end of the year grades. It all depends on your school. The GPA may be listed only as a cumulative GPA for all grades received up until that point, or they may break out GPA for each completed school year also giving a cumulative GPA. It’s best to check with your guidance department and ask how they report their transcripts.

For one example, my kids school reports only year end grades for years that are completed, however for the current year all quarter, midterm, and semester grades will be viewable. GPA is always listed simply as a cumulative GPA. So, when a transcript is sent to a school in November of Sr. year they will show year end grades for 9th, 10th, and 11th grades, plus first quarter grades for fall of 12th grade, cumulative GPA. When the universities request midterm transcripts ours will show year end grades for 9/10/11, and first qtr, second qtr, midterm, and first semester grades for Sr year, again with a cumulative GPA.
Some schools like Stanford, Princeton, Vanderbilt, UMich Ann-Arbor and UC’s don’t look or ask for freshman grades.
