Which year's GPA do colleges look at?

I am going to be applying this fall....will the classes I take first quarter senior year be calculated in my GPA that colleges see?

They see your cumulative GPA, so if your senior grades are factored in, they'll see that. Sorry I'm being vague; school policies vary.

It depends. Most will just request a midyear report and that will have your first quarter grades on it. If you apply ED, they won't see your midyear report. (They'll just see all your senior year grades at the end of the year if you apply, get in, and decide to go.)

I wouldn't really worry so much about the GPA because most colleges recalculate anyway to fit their system.

With that said, don't slack off your senior year because colleges do care and they WILL rescind your admission if your grades drop significantly.

It depends on the college. My guidance department told me that they first look at the cumulative GPA, and then the grades and classes on your transcript. If you show a noticeable improvement in grades and the level of your courses compared to what you were taking your freshman year, they will weigh the later years more heavily. However, if you went through school taking relatively the same amount of APs etc. then they will just use the cumulative GPA.
