I'm applying directly to Ph.D programs in Art History. I have around 3.6 CGPA, and my upper year GPA is about 3.8.

What concerns me is that I did a special exchange program in my first year, and my GPA was about 3.0. I think I have to send transcripts from all post-secondary institutions, but would they really see this as a major drawback in my application? I still got A's in two art history courses I took...

AdComs have seen everything already and are fully aware that 18 year olds away from home for the first time are not always ideal young scholars.

You do have to send transcripts from all schools, but don't worry about it at all. The focus will be on your upper level work, not what you did 3+ years ago.

Concentrate on writing a great SOP (which should focus on what you want to do, not what you have done) and getting solid LORs.
