Fish Tanks

Do most colleges allow fish tanks in the on-campus dorms?

Apparently many schools allow up to a 10 gallon tank. That's not huge -- but if it spilled it could be a mess!

my school allows up to a 25 gallon tank. that's alot and we can have as many tanks as we want, as long as the total number of gallons is no more than 25.

Most schools do. My college does but I didn't bring my tank despite being an avid aquarium guy (and I have been since I was born). At home I have a ten gallon, and it's big enough for almost anything except those giant fish.

You can get a Marineland BioWheel filter for about $20 for a ten gallon tank. It's worth it if you have one--best filter and pretty quiet. As far as fish go, I specialize in swordtails. Also have tetras, zebra danios, and platies (which are very easy to breed--I got three great babies that grew into adults once). As long as you don't get like 50 fish you'll have more than enough room in a 10 gallon. Make sure you get plants too--fish love them.

Make sure the power is on during breaks.

See it the custodian can feed for you during breaks.

Moving a 20 is a pain but can be done without complete tear down.

A couple of predators and a 100 feeder guppies can make for an entertaining evening.

Make sure no one defecates in your fishtank.

That is a popular prank.

lol (10 char)

eww at the defecating thing

bsball, that lol (10 char) was hilarious! hahahah lol. First time I have seen that.

The colleges I visited said that I could only bring a pet that can live under water... which is why I am currently training my bunny in scuba diving like Jinx in the movie "Meet The Fockers".
