Fisher School of Business: How competitive is the accounting specialization?

Hi guys,

I currently attend Columbus State CC and plan on transferring over to OSU soon. I was curious as to how competitive the business school is, more specifically the accounting specialization within Fisher. I currently hold a 3.5 cumulative across 4 semesters and am a first-gen college student. I’m not a minority but have done years of community service in my life. I’ve successfully ran a couple of businesses, and was running a free tutoring service for kids in my old neighborhood (inner-city/at-risk youths) for a while. I don’t know how that measures up to other applicants, but I’m 22 and would really like some perspective/advice on this.Maybe I’m freaking out too much, but again, I’m a first-gen and could totally appreciate some advice here.

How competitive is the Fisher School of Business, and exactly how hard is the accounting specialization to get into? I really love econ/accounting and was considering minoring in econ. in the process. Would this better my chances? Again, thanks for the help.

Thanks for reading!

I am currently an Econ major and all it took to get in was a 3.0+ GPA. I don’t know about Accounting but here we just call it competitive because the GPA requirements are above University standard of 2.5 (or 2.0?).

If you are transfering you most likely will be fine but you may have to take a semester or two of business core courses to establish a GPA at OSU (they require OSU specific courses/gpa sometimes).

Requirements for all BSBA specializations as far as I know are…

Minimum OSU GPA of 3.00 or better
Completion of 26 semester hours of course work (this includes transfer credit, EM, AP, PSEO)
Completion of a minimum of 12 semester hours of OSU letter-graded earned hours
Completion of English 1110 or equivalent with a grade of C or better
Completion of Math 1131 or 1151 or equivalent and prerequisites with grades of C or better
