Fitting In

I've been hearing a lot about how many kids who go to Williams are very athletic or artistic (music/theatre). do students who aren't involved in these areas ever have trouble fitting in? is it easy to get involved in these activities just for fun (i.e. intramurals or something like that)?

1) Sometimes. As with anything, anywhere.

2) yes, very easy.

This question has already been answered frequently and in great detail on this board.

There are many activities at Williams where you can find your niche. My daughter was an athlete, but didn't really bond with her teammates the first year. She found some friends in a club sport that she did "just for fun". Don't worry, peachaple, there are all kinds of ways to fit in.

You never hear of the students that do not manage to fit into Williams because no one looks at them or notices them despite of all their efforts. GOOD luck with fitting in without a sport or artistic talent....you will need it.

Well, I can speak for myself, I graduated a few years back, but the school has changed very little since I left. I have absolutely no artistic or athletic ability. Of my good friends at Williams, only one was a varsity athlete (football, now a doctor), and a few more played club sports, but most were fairly unathletic. I had a few friends who sang in acapella groups, and a few who played an instrument, but again, the majority of my friends were not gifted artistically either. Going to Williams was the best decision I ever made, and many of my closest friends (most of whom are, to this day, my college friends) would say the same thing. So, to answer your question, no, you won't.

Oh, and as for your other question, I was a decent player in intramural basketball -- in the "c" league. The "a" league was pretty much varsity athletes or good H.S. basketball players. The "b" league was reasonably coordinated people, maybe a decent high school athlete. The "c" league was for people like me, who had no prayer of making any varsity team in high school. And I had a blast.
