FIU to FSU Spring 2017

Hello Everyone! First Post on here

I’m currently a high school senior graduating with my A.A (dual enrollment) from Miami Dade College. For the fall semester, I plan to go to my local university FIU and then hopefully for spring transfer over to FSU. In case you were wondering as to why I didn’t go to FSU in the first place, that’s because I got rejected (apparently they received “unofficial” mid-year grades and it was too late to fix it) What are my chances of transferring to FSU for the spring semester? By the time I apply I should be considered a junior because of my 60+ credits!

A.A: Yes, Officially completed by summer of 2016 - Summer B in Miami Dade College
College GPA: 3.64
Major: International Affairs
Pre Reqs for my major- FSU has NONE. Only encouraged courses.

One last thing, I can’t apply as a transfer to FSU while I’m still in high school. That’s why I have to take the FIU to FSU route.

There’s a rule in Florida that guarantees you admission to a state university if you have an AA from a state college and aren’t applying to a limited access major. You fit those requirements, so you should be admitted.

I’m surprised they won’t admit you out of high school. It seems silly to have to go to FIU for one semester when they know you’re guaranteed admission even before your first semester at FIU.

Thanks for your response.
I called and explained my situation after my rejection. All the woman told was that regardless of having my associates by the summer. Since I’m a fresh highschool graduate I “MUST” take atleast 12 credits at another institution. That institution for me is FIU. What I’m a little lost is ? Should I begin the application process in the summer? Or in August once my final grades are posted for summer B ?
Anything information can help.

The AA transfer rule generally does not apply to FTIC students (those coming right out of high school). If you are an FTIC student you do have to complete 12 credit hours before transferring.

It’s weird that you would be completing your AA and they rejected you.

You can apply early, but FSU will want your transcripts saying you not only completed the AA degree but also the 12 credit hours. They would likely delay the decision until you send them in, so it likely does not matter.

@Pasbal Hello Pasbal! I need clarification, so when I apply in the summer. I should put all my 60 credits that I have completed at MDC. AS WELL as the 12 credits I plan on taking at FIU. Correct ? But they most likely won’t give me decision until I have completed my 12 credits? Would it not be too late by the time they receive my grades for FIU? I’m slightly worried now.

@Pasbal I have no idea if this makes a difference but the AA transfer rule according to the MDC website works with dual enrollment credits

Update ! This is what FSU told me ! good news !
“Thank you for your email. You can still apply for admission for the spring 2017 term as the deadline for transfers is November 1st. By that time, you should be in the process of completing your courses at FIU so you can send in a partial transcript before the deadline showing the classes you are taking. You will still be normally considered even though you do not have the final grades, but you will still need to submit a final official transcript with your grades once you finish classes at FIU.”
