FIU vs UM???? Mechanical Engineering

Hi, I am a high school senior. If plans go as I wish, I will be going to college next year, however, I am not planning to go away from home. I am currently applying to out of states schools and UF, but most likely I will stay here regardless of whatever opportunities I get out of the home. The main concern that has come to play right now is choosing between UM and FIU, please I would like to get honest opinions about, which one would be the best to study engineering. I am talking about academics, price, curriculum quality.

please help

i really would like to know

For price, you can check the net price calculator on each college’s web site.

can you give more information about you like grades, scores on Sat /Act etc. Also is it Michigan, Minnesota etc?

…”I am not planning to go away from home.” UM means Miami (of Florida).

You will first need to be accepted to both in order to have this problem. UMiami is more selective. In addition UMiami’s ticket (and real) price is typically a lot more for residents so start by looking at the calculator as suggested above. The benefits may not outweighs the cost.

Also, Miami is one of the few places in the US where historically students tend to prefer to stay home for college. I would suggest to carefully look at all options and make sure your reasons for staying are solid (my friends are all staying is oftentimes not a solid readon…). If not I would give more careful consideration to FU and FSU.

It is too early to think about it. Apply to a group of colleges, see where you get in, look at which options are affordable and then it will be time to make a decision.
