copy & paste, copy & paste. LOL Yep, the last two posts are going to an email somewhere off the coast of Tacoma where the boy is freezing. Forgot to pack a sweat shirt. All he heard from the ATR was "Honolulu" apparently ...... :)
I understand that Kao-hsiung has the best fried rice in the history of fried rice. Thanks guys for the cool newbie ideas.

I hope he doesn't loose his sense of humor, he might not have anything left. LOL. It is his good humor that has indeed kept him sane and will carry him through.

Actually Jamzmom, he has been singing ses shanties and going to the "head" since he was knee high to a grasshopper so I am used to it.

Is your son off the coast of Tacoma? We live in Seattle. If he ever gets into port here, let us know, we will take him and show him the sights and fill him with good food.

Val

He'll be close Val. Sailing right past ya tomorrow. Don't know if he'll get to leave the ship except to go mail a portion of his project. He said something about buying 600 packages of Ramens so when you say good food, I think he truly might need some. I'll let him know that Mom hugs & food are in Seattle. LOL Hoping to get a phone call tomorrow. Will be nice to hear a voice.

Deepdraft, what is a typical sailing schedule like for Captains & Mates? The kid told us that they are getting an entire new crew as the one he's been sailing with was just replacing those who were on vacation. Is it something like 4 months on & one month off? He said the new Capt. is a KP grad. It is my hope that he doesn't drive this one to drink.....

Let me know if they have any usable time in port and if there is anything we can do for him.

No need to go to Seattle when there is plenty to do in Tacoma.

The Spar

The Cloverleaf -- best pizza in the Northwest!

Katey Downs

Thanks bunches you guys. I wrote down the places to tell him about when he calls. Can't wait to tell him what the c/o 2010 has been up to. He'll get a kick out of that.

Well, for the Captain and Mate on HORIZON TRADER it is probably 70 days on and 70 off (2 trips on and 2 off).. I know the current Chief Mate is a relief “off the board” (he bid on and got the job in the MM&P union hall) He is not on the Horizon company roster of permanent employee’s. I had him as 2nd. Mate when I was Master on the MAHIMAHI last year. The regular Chief Mate is also a Kings Pointer. I’ve sailed with him on a couple of occassions, back in my old American President Lines days. Did Jamz Jr. drive the last Captain to drink??? Oh my...

Thanks for the answer. Of course I'm joking... But if I were that Capt., I probably would cause I know him. The new crew won't be able to find anything. Seems the boy set up all new files & put stuff on excel spreadsheets. Moved around & straightened up inventory items. Apparently they like him alittle. They are taking him to a place called "The Rock" for pizza tonight. Yep, I got a phone call last night. The other kids were right that they can pick up a signal about 60 miles off the coast. Talk about jazzed. The 30 minute long conversation was 100% about this ship & his duties. I can't believe how much he's learned in such a short time. They've really been working with him & he's fascinated by all of it including the engine side of things. I can't wait for him to do this second run. He's just one big sponge, absorbing it all.

I think I'll have to send Dad, brother & half the KP football team to get him back to the academy come Nov. He loves it out there. Sorry KP10'sMom, he only gets the day & he said he had many errands to run then going out this evening with the crew to say goodbye.

Hey Jamzmom, just as long as they don't take him to the "Rock-za" in Honolulu.. (or the Femme-nu for that matter). They don't serve pizza there and I don't think you would approve...

Too late. I understand there are photos that I am not allowed to see nor want to. :D

Also, Jamazmom you may want to tell him to keep his butt out of Club Texas over in Guam...
It’s a place where the girls show EVERYTHING but class...
Yep yep, as my first Chief Mate said to me way back when I was a “brand new” 3rd Mate.
“Son, you’re going to sea NOT to Sunday school”;)

Deepdraft, You have dissolved all my delusions that my kid is safely tucked away in a millitary school that will keep him from all debauchery until he is mature enough to keep himself out of trouble on his own. Oh well.

SON, behave yourself when you do go out to sea.

Yea, thanks deepdraft from all of us Moms here. The Mates on the Jamz' ship probably shouldn't look for a Xmas card from me this year.... My only solace is that Boss's son was hanging out on a topless beach WAY before my son ever got to Guam. The boy actually had the nerve to say, Hey Mom could you hang up your end cause I gotta funny story for Dad". You can bet money I did not hang up. I may fly to Guam to surprise him!

Ballstamom---thanks so much for the info on CVS Flags---my son had contacted our state rep with no response.

A lot of people who contacted their congressman have been getting a lot of no's back. They are not able to send them one, but I dont know why tho. So i just went ahead and ordered one...here is a site that I ordered mine from if anyone is interested..the 3X5 were only $9.95 and you can have it shipped here.

SwimUSNA10 and KP10, the state flags looked great on Saturday. It was very special visiting the dorms. Other than this brief period on Parents Weekend, I was under the impression the barracks are closed to visitors. We enjoyed meeting our son's roommates and other classmates and hearing their stories about what they do for fun. The flags created great spirit and are great conversation starters. Way to go!

Your son's dorm had the flags up? Our son's did not. I was pretty dissappointed that they were not because the dorms looked pretty shabby and I thought the flags might have brightened things up. And they would have created a spirit and conversation to the place, something lacking in his hall.

KP10sMOM, Bummer that you missed seeing KP10's flag after all the hassle of getting it. 2nd Company had their flags up, but I guess every company is a little different.

the flags were hung across the grinder from 1st co to band co thursday night. they were taken down before lunch on friday, so some parents did not get to see them.
