Help! Can anyone give me an idea of what our friend (retired Navy CDR and Top Gun Pilot) can say at the presentaion of my son's appointment to KP? What sort of things are mentioned??? Please give me some info that I can pass along.

basically have him say "this kid is amazing, and yeah, you pretty much all should buy him ice cream." i think that sums it up nicely
: )
just kidding.
i'd say have him look at the website, that's where a lot of the info about this place can be found.

I heard them mention facts and numbers like he is only one of 275-300 students selected to attend the class of 2011 at KP from the whole country and maybe 3000 applicants for those slots etc (whatever the academy claims for that year). They mention the nominating congressman/senator and maybe what the value of his eduction of 4 yrs at the academy is worth. I think our presenter said it was worth $300K. Perhaps someone else has more current information for this year.

Use this video for some facts or play it before he's presentated with your son's appointment.

Reconize 2011 (let's start it early)

Bottom line is that your son was one of thousands who applied to the five United States Service Academies and received a congressional appointment and acceptance. USMMA is the finest Merchant Marine Academy! Your son will have the opportunity to prove himself at a level that few can ever achieve. Congratulations to you and your son. KP Dad.

Amazing video! I have never seen that one.

The Academy will send you the official appointment to be presented to your child at their awards ceremony. (Suitable for framing) :) It comes in a nice folder. I think they send an "official" speech that can be read at the awards ceremony. If I remember correctly, I think they ask you who wil be presenting the award and provide that person with the information. It is very nice and impressive. We had a special friend present to our son. It was just last year but it seems so long ago. I can't believe his first year is almost over.

As always, if in doubt, contact the Academy.

Thank you all! I called the academy and they emailed me a copy of a suggested awards speech which can be customized. I've forwarded it to our friend who will be doing the presentation.

Also on a quick note about how awesome KP parents are...the other day a lady showed up at our doorstep and said she lived in the subdivision up the street; she said she saw our son's nomination and appointment info in the local paper and wanted to personally congratulate him, she further said her son graduated KP in 03 and wanted to welcome us to the "family."

Call admissions, they have a little 1 minute speech written you can use.
