I was in the middle of editing a post I recently posted before it disappeared and a statement that it was “flagged for moderation” appeared. What caused it to be flagged? Will I be able to continue editing it before it gets approved and posted by a mod (assuming my post is found to be fine)?
Note the last sentence:
“Your post has been flagged for moderation. Your comment will appear only if it is approved. If your post violates the TOS it will not be published. Common violations include disallowed links and profanity.”
You can repost without the included links or profanity.
I don’t recall any links or profanity in my post. That’s what’s got me stumped. It was a post that merely provided some background about myself and reasons for applying to a certain school. If it was misconstrued and offended anyone, I truly apologize…but like I said, I don’t recall any content that would have violated the TOS.
Can a moderator PM me about it and point out what I did wrong…if my post is still around for them to review? Could someone have hit the “flag” button accidentally? Does it take multiple flags to take down a post?
Right, you may not recall, and teens don’t recognize profanity so well, or it could have been a typo. In any case, your post is gone; just post it again. Members never saw it, so no one was offended. The blocking process is automatic, not manual.
Hmm, thanks. Not a teen btw
Will think about reposting; feeling a bit discouraged about doing so after having this happen.
Sorry, I made an assumption about applying as an undergrad.
When it happens just check closely; the offender is there, you’ll find it! Offending typos are hard to find; there’s time to submit, say, the first half, then the second half, to narrow it down, progressively editing your post.
No apology needed. But yes, I am applying as an undergrad. I’m an older non-traditional student.
Thanks for the tips! Will keep them in mind for when I do decide to start posting again.
Here is a tip than can take less time: Send the message to yourself as a PM. The term that triggered the message will appear as asterisks. Edit that, and the message will go through.
Also, be aware that in addition to profanity, any acronym that if spelled out has a profanity would likewise trigger the message.
No. This is an automated process; the word/link triggers the message and sends the post to be manually reviewed by a moderator. We then look to see if there is indeed something that violates ToS. If there is, we reject the post. Once rejected, it is gone forever.
No. One is all that is needed to trigger a moderator review.
