Flinn 2012

For those of you who don't know about the Arizona Flinn Scholarship... Here's a link to read about it: The Deal: Full Scholarships for Arizona Universities | Flinn Scholars

Basically,
This year, 20 of Arizona’s highest-achieving students will become Flinn Scholars, receiving an unparalleled package for undergraduate study:
Free tuition and room and board;
Funding for study abroad;
Mentorship from brilliant faculty and exposure to world leaders;
Fellowship in an extraordinary community of current and alumni Scholars.
It's estimated to be worth more than $100,000.

I applied for this scholarship, since I met the requirements, and received an email today. I have nearly no hope after this email. Some of the highlights:
"This fall saw us receive 653 completed applications, the most in more than 25 years. Reading and assessing carefully all of those applications involves what will ultimately be a team of 35 reviewers working in five rounds over more than four months. The application of each candidate who is designated a Flinn Scholar in mid-March will have been read by 11 people (plus me, though I don't have a vote in the final decision)."

"In Mid-December, about 580 of you will receive a letter thanking you for applying for the Flinn Scholarship and wishing you well as you continue preparing for college. The remainder will be given a semifinalist interview date--either on Friday, January 4, or Saturday, January 5."

"We talk now and then about how it's much, much harder to earn the Flinn Scholarship than it is to get into Harvard or Stanford, and that's definitely true in this year's pool. My guess is that half of Cal Tech's entering freshmen wouldn't make it out of the first round of our process."

"So, here's where we stand: Early next month, several teams of three reviewers each will gather here at the Flinn Foundation's offices for Round Three of the process. They'll read the strongest 125 applications, advancing a total of 60-75 candidates to our Semifinalist Interview Round."

Good Luck to anyone who makes it past that first elimination. I don't think I personally will, though I have a little hope for some of my friends/classmates who also applied. This scholarship is huge, and I was hoping to be at least a Semi-Finalist. I still have a little hope, but I guess only time will tell.
