And here’s a weird one-- thought it was my laptop but not sure. The mouse disappears on the page but the options to be selected “highlight” or change color. This isnt happening on other sites. Ideas?
What happens is that people will report multiple instances of spam from the same account, and that clogs up our forum. We need only one report per account - we always check out their other posts.
Yes, I reported an old thread that was reactivated then a nasty poster and the second one was blocked. Blocked on the second report!
typo in post # 19 – the site is NOW making posters wait 300 seconds (post says not, should say now).
I propose the following: Do not allow new accounts created between 11:00 PM - 8:00 AM EST to post.
^Um…that’s only 8pm PST…
And besides I think any such solution will not accepted based on the previous post:
I think blocking the users from posting during a certain period is a lot easier than blocking them from posting foreign languages. This method is only involved with account activation while later is involved with content filtering. We have seen users temporarily suspended by mods in the past because they violated CC terms.
Another way to restrict multiple spamming threads during a short period is to require a minimum amount of time between new threads. 2 to 4 hours are reasonable. Normal users would not need to create multiple threads in a day.
“^Um…that’s only 8pm PST…”
I just found this one at 7 pm PST:
@coolweather - I’m not sure what your point is. I think you misunderstood my point.
You stated “Do not allow new accounts created between 11:00 PM - 8:00 AM EST to post.”.
This implied to me that you thought no legitimate source would be up at those hours creating a new account. I just wanted to point out that it would be 8pm on the west coast and a very reasonable time for people to be creating new accounts. Frankly, it would be difficult to find any time of day for this kind of restriction since there are users on this site from all over the world.
It’s true that there is no ideal period for restriction. I have the impression these violators just want to post right away after creating new account instead of waiting for a probation period then come back later to post. Normal users would be more patient.
Yes, a waiting period would be more reasonable. It’s also an idea that has come up in the past…namely as a way to stop those threads where someone creates an account, asks a question and never returns.
@T26E4 entered a link that had the following email response to a scanner:
So the target of the scam said he would have his colleague killed and the scammer still didn’t take the hint? :))
Anyone else getting sidebar ads here on CC in Chinese???
