Floored

In the freshman dorms (specifically Monroe and Sharp), are the floors carpet or hardwood? I was just wondering if I should get a rug.

Monroe is carpeted and I am pretty sure Sharp is also.

We purchased a bamboo area mat for my son last year. He and his roomie really like it because it could be wiped down if spills occured and it looked really good. Much easier care than carpet.

along,
Good idea...can you share approximate cost and the best place to buy something like that?

along- YOu mean you son didn't want to vaccum :-) Being a mother, I was happy to see that Monroe had a vacuum available for loan. What was I thinking; my son had no intentions of vacuum his room! Monroe was just recarpeted the year he was a freshman; the first day of school was the last time that carpet was clean.

Oh, what; I remember him saying one of the girls vacuumed once because they wanted his room to look nice for something, I can't remember what.

Pokey, I am willing to be that the only times the mat was actually lifted and vacuumed under was the day he moved in and the day he moved out! What happened on the top during the year I am afraid to speculate about.

I purchased the mat for $50, if I remember correctly, at Bed, Bath, & Beyond. I know it wasn't expensive. I was pleased with how well it held up. I know there are little scratches all over it, but I think a little Old English will take care of it before he heads back to school.

what were the dimensions of the mat you bought? Would 4x6 be good or 2x3? because I saw a really cool bamboo mat for $9 from crate and barrel that was 2x3, but then the 4x6 was like $30, so are the extra feet necessary?

My son's room was in Butler. He and his roomie had their beds all the way against oppposite walls, and the mat just fit in between the beds. If I remember the dimensions right, and I did look at it, it is 5' wide and probably 6' to 8' long. Very little carpet showed.

The housing website has descriptions and dimensions of the rooms in each dorm. Also whether or not they have extra-long twins. It was somewhat helpful in trying to visualize the layout and what kind of storage there would be.
