Florence - Gsp

So im gonna be attending NYU in Florence - La Pietra this fall and was wondering if anyone could tell me anything they have to say about this program especially if you yourself have attended it or possibly sumone you kno! How is the...:

Social Life?

Any sports Facilities?

How many people live on the La Pietra campus in total?

...and anything else worth mentioning!!

And anyone here who is also going to be attending La Pietra this fall?

Hey, i'll be attending Nyu freshman year in florence program next year, and visited the campus a week ago. The campus is beautiful, there are 5 villas;

Villa Pietra, which has Harold Acton's (the man who donated the campus to NYU) collection of art, which is supposedly magnificent, and only open to the general public 1 week a year, which means it isn't full of tourists at all times of the year.

Villa Ulivi, where classes are held, it also has a computer lab etc.

Villa Natalia, where most of the freshman will live (houses 100). Most of the rooms are multi (e.g 4 people) with some doubles and triples. Every room has it's own bathroom, some bathrooms have multiple sinks and showers. The rooms are fairly small. This is also where the cafeteria is and a (small) gym as well as a computer lab.

Villa Coletta - houses 25, including some upperclassmen and some freshmen.
The rooms are larger, and usually double or triple, although most don't have their own bathroom, but they are located not far down the hall.

The last Villas name i don't recall, but it is a conference centre.

So 125 people live on campus, mostly freshman, but there are 200-300 upperclassmen who also study at Villa Ulivi, but live in off campus residences.

Most people I talked to when visiting said they loooooved it, and didn't want to leave :) They said a benefit of it is that everyone becomes one big family, and when coming to NYC you will allready have 100 close friends.
The professors and director all seem great, very friendly and helpful.
The classrooms are small, which means there are no large classes, which is a plus in my book.

You will also have classes only from mon-thurs wich leaves a 3 day weekend :) :) :) This is so that students who wish to travel around Italy or Europe willl be able to do so easily.

Here are some websites that may be helpful, and which have some pics of La Pietra:

<a href="http://www.nyu.edu/global/florence/%5B/url%5D">http://www.nyu.edu/global/florence/</a></p>

<a href="http://admissions.nyu.edu/florence/%5B/url%5D">http://admissions.nyu.edu/florence/</a></p>

Also once you go to NYUhome and get your e-mail adress, you should create a facebook (<a href="http://www.thefacebook.com%5B/url%5D">www.thefacebook.com</a>) account, and here you will be able to find people who have been in florence freshman yr, who will be able to give you greater insight to the program.

Hope this helps!

yea thanx alot!! I wanted to go to that open house thing... =( I'm prolly gonna go visit La Pietra once all my IB exams are over with tho!

i'm going too!:) hehe

have u guys filled out ur housing preferences yet online?

i chose multi - bedroom - im guessing thats for 3 ppl and above , any idea up to how many people it can be for?

I have emailed the staff there. They said that multi can be for 4,5 and 6 people.

I am filling in the housing preference but I am stuck with the question about preference of bedroom type/residence type. I prefer La Natalia to La Coletta but I also want to live in a double. What did you guys fill in?

i filled out my housing app few dayz ago.. i chose triple as my first choice, and double and multiple as my second choices..La Natalia sounds better to me b/c each room has a private bathroom but not the ones in La Coletta does, even though La Coletta rooms are little bit bigger and maybe quieter, i wouldnt prefer sharing a bathroom with bunch of ppl :( also it will be easier to meet all the new ppl!! :)

I put multi bedroom as my first choice - and then bedroom type over residence type. I'd prefer villa natalia, but if i undertood correctly Villa coletta doesnt have multi - person bedrooms so hopefully i wont end up there!

I thought the "going out" questions were kinda vague... I put "like to meet new people, and out passed 1:00" ... what did you guyz choose?

Btw has any one of you received confirmation that your deposit check has been chashed? I sent a check bout 2 weeks ago and still no confirmation...
