Hey, i'll be attending Nyu freshman year in florence program next year, and visited the campus a week ago. The campus is beautiful, there are 5 villas;

Villa Pietra, which has Harold Acton's (the man who donated the campus to NYU) collection of art, which is supposedly magnificent, and only open to the general public 1 week a year, which means it isn't full of tourists at all times of the year.

Villa Ulivi, where classes are held, it also has a computer lab etc.

Villa Natalia, where most of the freshman will live (houses 100). Most of the rooms are multi (e.g 4 people) with some doubles and triples. Every room has it's own bathroom, some bathrooms have multiple sinks and showers. The rooms are fairly small. This is also where the cafeteria is and a (small) gym as well as a computer lab.

Villa Coletta - houses 25, including some upperclassmen and some freshmen.
The rooms are larger, and usually double or triple, although most don't have their own bathroom, but they are located not far down the hall.

The last Villas name i don't recall, but it is a conference centre.

So 125 people live on campus, mostly freshman, but there are 200-300 upperclassmen who also study at Villa Ulivi, but live in off campus residences.

Most people I talked to when visiting said they loooooved it, and didn't want to leave :) They said a benefit of it is that everyone becomes one big family, and when coming to NYC you will allready have 100 close friends.
The professors and director all seem great, very friendly and helpful.
The classrooms are small, which means there are no large classes, which is a plus in my book.

You will also have classes only from mon-thurs wich leaves a 3 day weekend :) :) :) This is so that students who wish to travel around Italy or Europe willl be able to do so easily.

Here are some websites that may be helpful, and which have some pics of La Pietra:

Also once you go to NYUhome and get your e-mail adress, you should create a facebook (www.thefacebook.com) account, and here you will be able to find people who have been in florence freshman yr, who will be able to give you greater insight to the program.

Hope this helps!
