U fo Tampa sounds like it has a good education dept. Is the area nice?

No, U of Tampa is not good, don't consider it. If you can't in to UCF or FSU, then I would try applying to USF (South Florida), I hear it's pretty average on all accounts, campus, academics, and surrounding area... as opposed to the others we're talking about here after the main 4, which are all below average to bad in most areas (FIU, FAU, Tampa, etc.)

Aren't there any good smaller schools in Florida?

I guess there's some others like Bethune-Cookman, Flagler College, Florida Southern, Jacksonville, New College of Florida, Stetson, Southeastern, North Florida, West Florida, etc... but I don't know much about them and I don't know if anybody else would either. They definitely aren't on the same level as those others and you better have poor scores to think about applying to most of them. Like somebody else said earlier, Rollins College is beautiful, and very good academically... also a biiig party school.

Fresh off the 2007 USNews website:

UCF is rated in Tier 4. UF, FSU and UMiami are in Top 100 nationally. The other ratings up the list are current; except UCF fell to Tier 4 from Tier 3 in the 2007 ratings.

Undergraduate Business Programs:

UF 32
FSU 43
UMiami 70
UCF 143
USF 146
FIU 155
Stetson U 161

That's strange. On BusinessWeek's undergrad rankings, UCF was ranked #60 : http://bwnt.businessweek.com/bschools/undergraduate/06rankings/

Much higher than 143. I wonder who to believe. And that sucks that UCF dropped to Tier 4, I thought it was improving... what's the scoop?

Would you mind telling me where these schools are listed on the Business Rankings for U.S. News parent2noles or anyone else who has the 07 edition.

Colorado State
Colorado-Boulder
Central Florida
Florida State
Northeastern
Southern Methodist
Texas Christian
Kansas
Montana
Clemson
Penn State
Virginia Tech

university of tampa is very nice i love the area and its a great campus...my brother and sister are both currently attending so ask me any questions you want and i should have an answer for you

If you want Hospitality Administration - better look at Florida State, too. It's a Business degree from the College of Business.

Candace- Rollins is a good small school, with about 2000 students. It's in a really nice area in Winter Park. There's also Stetson, but I'm not sure how small that is.

Flagler in St. Augustine is a small liberal arts college that seems to have a decent reputation.

If you're curious about Jacksonville University, be careful and scrutinize any news reports you can find. I read that there have been recent financial shenanigans on the part of the administration.

As for U of Tampa, I met an admissions officer from the school who confirmed that the student population contains a significant number of non-residents from the northeast.

U. of Tampa must do recruiting up North.

Yes, I spoke with the U of Tampa Admissions officer at the Javitz Convention Center in Manhattan. There was quite a line at her booth.

the funny thing is that most people in state don't know about it, so I guess i finally understand why most people from the northeast ask about it: because they recruit highly to northerners not floridians.

Can anyone tell me the US News (2007) rank for New College of Florida?

Thanks.

there on the liberal arts college rank, i think it was in the forties?

University of Miami and University of Florida are the two best schools.

Rollins is popular with out of staters...lots of mid atlantic kids there.

As far as their specialty areas go.
