Florida colleges

does anyone have any information about academics, student life at the university of tampa? or about university of south florida? what colleges are good for an out-of-stater in florida?? thank you.

usf is a cool college. I almost applied there, but decided at the last minute not to.

This website gives a pretty comprehensive overview http://www.ugs.usf.edu/catalogs/0405/cattoc.htm

and the C ollege P rowler website has some good excerpts about it.

University of Tampa- to my knowledge is largely a commuter college.

USF is comparable to a lot of the other lesser FL state universities. I go to UCF personally and like the campus more.

What do you want to study?

Public or private?

I want to study either something like biochemistry or business, I am not really sure yet but I am leaning towards the sciences. I dont really have a preference to either public or private, but I do want a school where it is easier for an out-of-stater to transition into. I also would like to be by the tampa area but i wouldn't mind go somewhere else.

lilred22, how are ur stats? If you're looking to go into the sciences, I'd suggest looking at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Its regarded by many as the most selective/prestigious univ. in the state. It also has one of the largest chemistry depts. in the U.S. with a wide variety of chem classes and research opportunities. There is a biochem specialization within the chem major. For out of state students, I imagine the entrance reqs are much more selective than for in-staters. I believe only about 8% of the students are from out of state. Overall its about a 1200-1380 SAT I, and 3.7-4.3 weighted GPA as recalculated by the admissions office, and about 77% students in top 10% of their h.s. class. Also, look into University of Miami in Coral Gables and Florida State University in Tallahassee. They both also have strong science and business programs, as with UF.
