I'm applying early Decision to Cornell, and although I gave my teachers and counselor the recommendation forms early this year (and have sent in all other required materials), one of the teachers and the counselor has not sent them (for nov. 1st deadline). Because of the hurricane that just went through, most of south Florida is out of power (I am running on my dad's work's generator), and since school is out all this week I have no way to contact my teachers...does anyone know if an extension will be given to Florida applicants?, or what has been done in situations like this in the past.

Definitely call Cornell up and see what they say. I am sure they will be understanding considering the circumstances!! Good Luck! Tell us how everything works out.

i'm applyng this year too... this definitely sounds like a valid "special circumstance" that they said they will consider. i hope everything turns out well!

As long as your application is in, the delay in a teacher recommendation or counselor report is not a problem. The colleges recognize that the date a teacher or counselor sends in the paperwork is out of the applicant's control.

Just do as others have said and contact the school to let them know of the delay. A call is ok, but it might be good to follow-up with an e-mail to admissions about this so that they have something in writing to put into your file about the delay.

Don't worry.
