I’ve gotten into all of these colleges. Price is not really an issue but I want to make sure than I go to the best program. Which one of these school would be best for a mechanical engineering BS? Please help soon!

Florida Institute of Technology, Embry Riddle, or University of Miami for Mech. Engineering BS? HELP

FIT and Embry-Riddle are both very good schools for engineering. U Miami’s strengths are not in engineering, but their programs are nonetheless solid.

Ultimately, you should go to whichever school you feel offers the best environment for you.

But for mechanical engineering, could you tell me which would be best?

FIT’s ME program is (much?) bigger than Embry-Riddle’s.

The following link will show the total higher education R&D expenditures in engineering for 2011 (latest data available).

In Engineering (overall), Embry-Riddle is #159, U-Miami is #182, while FIT is #224. However, FIT’s expenditures in ME is far greater than the other two schools. In fact, almost all of Embry-Riddles is in Aeronautical/Astronautical engineering. However, keep in mind that ME’s would also work on Aero type research.

None of which would replace cost and fit. Have you visited any of the schools? If not, you really should, if possible.

It is true that most of Embry-Riddle’s students are in Aerospace Engineering, but their Mechanical Engineering program is certainly no slouch.

The bigger issue here is going to be cost and overall fit. Nitpicking between the two schools is going to be pointless as both ME programs are very good.

Thank you both very much, I think all that will be left is a final visit to both schools.
