Florida Opportunity Scholarship

Has anyone gotten the opportunity scholarship? how does it work?

Same here, it just says they received it but no other information. I remember reading somewhere that they are going to post the the financial aid information around April 1st.

How do you see if you’ve received it?

I have no clue, I received the e-mail saying I was elegible. Now I have to send a document to “criser hall” to see if I get the scholarship. But I want to know if you get money to your self? Is it a fixed amount that this scholarship is? Or they just cover all your expenses? Alos if you have other grants (pell grant) and scholarships (bright futures) the money goes to my pocket? Or UF keeps it?.. So many questions :/…

So sorry, I posted my last message under this thread by mistake. I meant to post under the Financial Aid thread. :o

Awww, I didn’t even get the email saying I was eligible. :frowning: Shame.

FOS is a scholarship that covers EVERYTHING, the cost of UF (approx $19,000) will be covered completely. One of the goals is that you don’t get loans, even if you don’t have Bright Futures it will pay the difference from Pell Grant and the cost of attending. If you have BF then it will be that plus Pell grant plus any grant plus the FOS (any quantity of money that will still have to be paid). It doesn’t cover Summer so have that on mind. I have it and some people would die to get it. Send the signed contract ASAP and that’s it, you are coming to college for free.

Oh, I’m not first generation. That’s probably it. Such a stupid factor. :/

I was not elegible even though i received the email because i was accepted for spring and back then i did not receive that email, now is when i receive it and it is only for people entering for the first semester in UF UGHHHH SUCKS! why did i get accepted for spring!!

Wait did you get into IA and also get this email and who did you contact that told you that your not eligible anymore ? I got the same email and i got accepted into spring term

@ubautista Contact Leslie Pendleton (FOS Program Director) lesliep@ufsa.ufl.edu to make sure that IA and/or Spring Admits are allowed to receive FOS. If you are eligible then you will likely get it.

I called my SFA counselor from financial aid and she said IA admits are eligible for it idk about transfer spring admits though !

Hi Ir2010. I received an email for the FOS on the 20th and faxed my forms in on the 21st. Does that mean I have a better chance at receiving the scholarship? It is first come first serve right? Also when did they let you know you received the scholarship? Thank you!

Once you’re eligible for FOS, you’re guaranteed to get it as long as you return the required forms. I have it.

Thanks jeromefulton. But my friend who attends UF told me the scholarship was limited and not everyone who was eligible received it. Do you remember when they informed you that you had received it? Thanks.

That’s not true, if they sent you the form then you are going to get it.

Thanks for your response Ir2010!

So just to clarify those who received the email asking to send the supplemental application for the scholarship will receive the FOS?

Yes, you will receive it as along as you turn in the supplemental documents. The chose about 350 to 400 people a year.

People always say there’s FOS documents listed under their aid status on Isis, but I have nothing
