Florida State to Emory University

Hi, I'm currently attending Florida State University (FSU) for my freshman year and I have made my decision to transfer to Emory University for my sophmore year.

So I wanted to know how Emory is on transfer students? Are they lenient or harsh? What are some things I can do to increase my chances there, aside from getting the highest GPA possible?

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
bttf

I'm sure you've looked at their transfer website, right?

Well Emory (last time I checked) only accepts transfers into junior status - that is 60 credit hours - that's if your major is business.

Get to know a good professor at your current college who teaches classes that deal with your major. In fact, make it two professors.

How are your h.s. stats looking?

Not sure if they're lenient or harsh, but nothing is impossible. Emory showed a 36% in transfer acceptance rate, but keep in mind it deals with individual schools.

Which test did you take, SAT or ACT? Unless they say not to, keep taking them until you get a score you're very happy with.

Hope this helped.

According to the Transfer Admission site I went to (<a href="http://www.emory.edu/ADMISSIONS/admission-aid/transfer-admission.htm)%5B/url%5D">http://www.emory.edu/ADMISSIONS/admission-aid/transfer-admission.htm)</a>, Emory allows 1-year students to apply for transfer.

My h.s. stats are not that great (2.9, 3.1 weighted), no hours, and i got 1200 cw+m on SATs, it was 1810/2400.

I'm aiming for the best I can do here at FSU though, and I will try to get to know professors in my major.

I am willing to do whatever it takes, and I appreciate your help.

bump please

Does Emory require SAT scores for Jr. transfers? Nothing about this is mentioned on their site! >.< BTW, Backtothefuture, what's your current GPA?

It's mentioned on their application, I remember seeing it but I don't remember exactly what they said. Take a look at it , you'll find it

My GPA is nothing right now, its my freshman year so I haven't gotten any grades yet. Aiming for 4.0

Emory still requires your SAT scores if you apply as a Junior...the only thing they will wave is your HS transcript

Good luck!

Are they lenient or harsh?

They're lenient, especially towards males. The transfer acceptance rate for males was 53% in 2005-2006. Emory's common data set for 2006-2007 does not specify what the acceptance rate was for males. It only specifies the acceptance rate for males and females combined, but it would be reasonable to assume that the acceptance rate for males remained about the same as the year before.

To be blunt, a 2.9 high school GPA is much worse than that of the average Emory student. An 1810 SAT score is on the low side too. With those HS stats, gaining admission to Emory out of high school would be very unlikely. For transfer admission, college GPA is the most important facet. Try to get the highest GPA possible. The higher the GPA, the better the chances.

I have a 3.7 thus far, but I plan on improving that quite a bit.

Appreciate your words Blaze, and everyone else who helped. It has given me some peace of mind. I will let you guys know what happens in the end.

Thanks , bttf

HOW did you get into fsu? i didn't! agh!

Anyone know how much they weigh the h.s. record (I mean Emory specifically)?
