During my sophomore year, I flunked my algebra 2 with D’s all four quarters. A ‘D’ is considered passing at my school, but I fear that it does not look too good on college admissions! I took secondary math 2 pre-AP (which is equivalent to algebra 2) the year before (9th grade) and got straight 'A’s.
I’ve consider myself a fairly decent student and I’ve never gotten D’s until algebra 2. Yes…I didn’t really try in that class cause I really don’t like math. I’m dumb like that…pls don’t yell at me. I also scored a 17 on the math section of the ACT. My composite score was 20.
Right now I will be a senior, and I have a 3.67 gpa. I had all ‘B’ and ‘A’ grade junior year. It dropped from 3.96 in my freshman year to 3.58 my sophomore year.
I also did not take a regular math class during junior year. However for my senior year, I’m going to be taking AP stats. Is that a bad move? Should I take precalc instead? :l The school does not allow algebra 2 class to be retaken. I have a really bad foundation in algebra…
Will those ‘D’ grades affect my college admissions? Because the highest math class required in my state is algebra 2. I’m not looking into UC’s or Ivy Leagues.
For my senior year, I will only need government and english credit to fulfill graduation requirements. I am also a student club officer, a newspaper staff member, on the honor roll, and won many piano and art awards. I’m going to do more volunteer and leadership work.
