I was just wondering how these colleges are for flute performance. Now I know that they aren't Juilliard, Eastman, and etc, but are any of the ones listed below decent? Any that should be stayed away from? And what's the caliber of music students who go there? And how easy or difficult would it be to get scholarships for a music major at these colleges? Or any personal experiences with these colleges?
Gettysburg College
Penn State University
The College of New Jersey
University of Delaware
University of Maryland
University of Massachusetts Amherst
University of North Carolina at Charlotte
University of Vermont
Any information would be helpful!

D3 (viola) auditioned at Gettysburg. She found the people very nice, and the school offered her a generous scholarship. She ultimately decided their strings program didn’t offer the level of intensity she was looking for, but it could be very different for flute. Had she decided to focus more on academics and keep music as a secondary focus, it could have been a good fit.

One thing to keep in mind before your audition - two years ago, they asked for copies of all the music you would be performing to be sent to them prior to the audition. We spent a tense morning scanning and emailing…didn’t really help to calm the nerves before the first audition of the season!

The teacher at UMASS is excellent. My D did some lessons with him last summer and really enjoyed working with him.

teacher at TCNJ is EXCELLENT…however the school is very focused on music education, not on music performance. delaware also had a great teacher, but like TCNJ, it is music education oriented. not sure if you want to major in performance or music education, it would help if you clarified which degree(s) interest you.
