Flute student looking for Small LAC for BA music and computer science

This is my second post on the forum - it was suggested to move it to music majors section. I have a junior S who is a strong flute player but not as strong in reading/writing skills. Strong in math and likes computers, chess. Loves flute performance, but needs to make a living so may double major in computer science; not sure if he wants to do music ed. but he might. Definitely not a double degree candidate. Looking for small (around 3000 or less students) LAC with strong music program, particularly in flute. Not looking at places where its only a conservatory like Eastman. Locations on West, East Coasts or Midwest fine. So far I have heard recommendations for Luther, Miami U., Furman, Allegheny, St Olaf, Denison. Particular interest in the quality of the flute instructor(s) and quantity/quality of available ensembles.
Comments on these schools and other schools would be helpful, esp in rel to flute.

flutetalk, welcome.

You've got considerations of a double major/dual degree possibility, which will vary widely among schools. Some encourage, some won't allow, and Bard stipulates a second non music degree for all performance majors.

Music ed bears some thinking about, as some are BA, some are BM, some schools offer either; most music ed programs are audition based, many highly competitive, and there is normally a bit lower audition standard for music ed admits as opposed to performance, yet apply a higher academic standard for ed majors.

There's a lot to weed through, but it may help formulate an inital list.

And of course there's http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/258796-so-you-want-music-major-one-family-s-experience.html, a must read for anyone trying to make some sense of this process.
