Flying to UCD?

I live in Los Angeles, and I have a tough decision to make; UCSB or UCD? I’ve heard things about both campuses, but the thing that most sways my opinions against UCD is the distance. If I were to visit UCD or to go to UCD, how would I fly there? I mean, the airports are pretty far away from it…and taxis are semi expensive…So, is there anyway to get to UCD by bus or something if I fly to like Sacramento International or something?

Thanksss

I have similar concerns. How much does it cost to fly down to LA from Davis, or vice versa?

UCSB is also another school I considered, and it would definitely be a lot easier, distance wise, on me and my family.

Yep! From the Sacramento airport, there is a bus (Yolo 42B) that takes you to the UCD bus depot. It costs about $1.50 (free with a UCD student ID)

^
I say that's a steal for transportation XD

I was planning on taking a flight to SD for their admit day. I'm going to assume that the price to fly down there will be realtively the same.

Say $90-120?

Thanks for the info marzxbarz. Now I need to plan somewhere to stay too..Aha...

Hahaha..if i knew you, I would offer my home to you =P

Sadly I dont think it would be a good idea. haha..

My friend said she found tickets for less than $50, but maybe that's from Burbank. o: I was wondering where the airport is in relation to UCD, though. Would it be better to drive or fly up when you're moving in?

I would recommend flying if you dont have alot to take.

I wanna take a plane there, but I don't want to go alone. My friend is hesitant; anyone want to accompany me? I might just go back on the same day, or maybe find a hotel.

Yeah my parents are reluctant to drive up there with my stuff. Lol girls usually bring a lot. =P

@Xeno: Are there other people at your school who are seriously considering Davis? It's a 2hr flight I think, which sure beats the 7hr drive for me, so you could probably go back the same day.

Wow, flying up their with a bunch of clothes seems horrible.

And just to let you know, if you buy several weeks in advanced it would be $70-100. But say it's an emergency and you have to buy tickets the next day or day of, then it would jump up to $200-300.

Emergency? Money shouldn't be an issue then =P

Sacramento International Airport is a public airport located 10 miles (16 km) northwest of downtown. It is run by Sacramento County.

I think i'm going to have to drive if i actually move there

Air
If you are going between Davis and SMF (Sacramento airport), a much cheaper alternative is to take Yolobus. Undergrads can ride for free, but for everyone else it's $1.50. You are restricted on how much luggage you can take, however. Allow at least an hour, preferably two.

Train
Amtrak has three routes that run through Davis. The Capitol Corridor travels as far east as Auburn and as far south as San Jose. This train runs 16 times/day each way between Sacramento and Oakland, Mon.-Fri. The line makes the Bay Area accessable from Davis by connecting to the BART System in Richmond and at the Oakland Coliseum. The California Zephyr also passes through Davis, going all the way to Chicago. The Coast Starlight line runs between Seattle and Los Angeles. The latter two trains operate once a day each way, and require advance reservations. To catch a train you'll want to go to the train station.

Theres also the Amtrack isn't there?

Since you live in Alhambra, the closest airport would be Burbank (BUR), which has less congestion and lines than LAX. Southwest Airlines has 11 flights per day from Burbank to Sacramento (SMF), and advance tickets cost about $100-$120.

For others in SoCal, there are also flights to SMF from Ontario (ONT), Long Beach (LGB), Orange County (SNA), and San Diego (SAN).
