Food and You at FSU

Well as far as meal plans go and food goes, here is my take.

My meal system:

I try to eat about 6 times a day but that depends on my schedule and other things.

I don't have a meal plan as I got tired of the food they server at Fresh/Suwanee.

Although it may seem new to all you freshmen, trust me, you will get sort of sick of eating the same things week by week.

Cost wise, my meals come out to anywhere from $20 to $30. Daily because I am the gym-rat that is described below.

If I had gone with the unlimited meal plan, sure I would have saved some (a lot of) money but then that limits my choices. There is only so much food you can eat at Fresh/Suwanee before you start wanting off-campus and other on-campus cuisines.

As far as flex bucks go. Sure you get like a few hundred to spend, but those only last so long and they DO NOT roll over.

I tried out the garnet buck system last semester and I've grown to love it. Not only can you use them at Fresh/Suwanee, you can use them at the other delicacies on campus. Anywhere you want, ON campus. It limits your off-campus spending but there are many options on campus.

I try to stick with dollars most of the time because that expands my choices greatly, which I always like.

So in conclusion. For people that don't think they can eat the same thing at the all-you-care-to-eat restaurants (AYCTER) and think they will go through their flex bucks too fast, GO WITH GARNET BUCKS.

Now here is a breakdown of different plans for people who are REQUIRED to purchase a meal plan.

Gym-Rat:
-This is you if you regularly go to the gym and are looking to gain muscle and what not.
-Buy the unlimited meal plan.
-You will want to eat a lot (6 meals a day does it) and Fresh/Suwanee can be experimented on your first year here.
-The Flex bucks will occasionally aid you on your cheat meals (where you eat whatever you want)

Medium-Exercise-Rat:
-This is you if you like sports and walk everywhere you go.
-Buy the 14 meal per week plan.
-Yes it is the same price as the unlimited but you also get double the flex bucks.
-And since you don't hit the gym as regularly as the above description, this is the perfect plan for you because it involves you eating 2 SOLID meals per day and lets you eat 2 or 3 snack meals (with or without the use of your flex bucks)

Lazy-Rat:
-If you are in this category, then you rarely get exercise but like to eat a lot.
-Get the unlimited meal plan or one that gives you more flex bucks because you will learn to like fresh/suwanee but flex bucks do come in handy even if you don't feel like walking over to eat.

Anyone-else-rat:
-Get the 7meals per week plan.
-You get $500 flex bucks that allows for a diverse culinary experience AND you don't feel like you are being pressured to eat at the AYCTE restaurants.
-Believe me when I say that $100 (meal wise) is not worth 3 extra meals per week -_- especially if they are restricted to Suwanee and Fresh. Better to get the Flex bucks if you don't like restrictions.

Keep in mind that some people don't like to walk over to Fresh/Suwanee if they don't have someone to go eat with them.

PLEASE keep in mind that eating DOES NOT have to be a social occasion. If you need to do what you need to do and others' timings do not match, then you gotta do what you gotta do. Surely gym-rats and myself know that.

Good luck!

you say that freshmen will hate the same thing everyday food. But People go through that in high school… same thing everyday… so i dont think that is going to be a big factor… just adding some insight

Well in high school, you sort of are required to eat the same thing everyday. I mean unless you choose to pack your meals at home, you eat the same thing. You can alternate whenever you want.

At college, you were given a choice and you chose one thing. If you are stuck with a meal plan, you might feel like “Oh man I wish I had gone with the more flexbucks option” or “Oh man I wish I could eat there.”

Im not saying that everyone will hate the food once they start eating it over and over again. Just saying that most people want variety, and that is something that is restricted when choosing meal plans over garnet bucks or just cash.

Thanks for the insight!
