Food

On a lighter note, while everyone is stressing about decisions, how's the food at USC? I went on a tour and after I left, I realized they didn't mention anything about the dining hall food being good. Normally on college tours, they stress that they have the "best food on the east coast" or are "ranked #5 for campus food". Obviously I'm not weighing my decision on food, but I am extremely curious.

My D really really didn’t enjoy EVK food at all. The couple times we ate there with her, it was mediocre at best. Nothing seemed truly fresh-- seemed too processed. We did not try the other dining halls-- she said they were slightly better. I’ve definitely had worse dining hall food (at other colleges) and much better food.

Ditto. I’ve heard the same thing from my D’s friends on campus. I had read once on CC that the best food was in EVK. Just proof that opinions are subjective and not believe everything you read. I won’t be living that one down anytime. The said the dining hall nearer to Flour was much better. Although, if you have a bike you can get around campus pretty quick and eat where your needs and tastes are a match to the food offered in the various spots. :-)

Food has improved over the past few years but you’ll still get bored of the dining hall after a semester if not a year. After moving off campus (usually sophomore year, assuming you live on campus as a freshman with a required meal plan), people usually cook or eat out since its not convenient and no one really buys a plan after that.

My only advice is to stay away from the red velvet cake. My husband helped himself to a generous slice during orientation (when they show off the food service to parents), and one of the cooks erred with the red dye. The cake turned my husband’s lips, tongue, and even his teeth bright bright red, and no amount of washing or brushing teeth helped that day. My husband was pretty traumatized and a bit peeved, but his supportive family got a good laugh.

Awesome story! My kid liked the food on his visit, but he is a veggie so a little different perspective.
