Will rigor of senior year schedule be factored in at all to the admissions process?
My guidance counselor told me for non-athletic recruitment it will be. I was just wondering about athletic recruitment for academically rigorous places like Bucknell, given that they may be completing their recruitment process or wrapping a lot of it up over the summer
They will ask for your senior schedule. I am not to sure how the pre read/academic index works in the Patriot League, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they wanted first semester grades. Signing date isn’t til February
@Ohiodad51 In other words, I really should take an AP class or two? It might make an actual difference?
I honestly don’t know. My son was in the IB program at his school, so his senior classes were the same as his junior classes. Most of the high academic schools want to see that you have challenged yourself in high school. The Ivys talk in terms of “most difficult curriculum available”. But my supposition is that is more of an issue in the classes you have taken to date and where your gpa is rather than what you plan to take next year. Remember that while Coach Susan wants to know if you can help him win the Patriot League on the field, admissions is going to want to know if your work in high school prepared you to handle the academics at a place like Bucknell.
First priority is getting into Bucknell and you’re not in yet. I would advise you to continue challenging yourself in the classroom by taking a couple AP’s if you can. The coach might have enough sway or the admission staff might not care too much if you don’t, but why leave it up to chance? You’ll learn more, you’ll be better at the end of it, and you’re only increasing your chances of admission. Go for it.
