Football's First 10-Win Season in Duke History!

Just wanted to share what has been really exciting on campus-- for the first time in history, Duke Football has a 10-win season.

Football's unusual winning streak was featured in the New York Times today, and even with Michigan tenting happening, it would be impossible to ignore the talk around campus about Duke now being a 'football school.'

Coach Cut has accomplished something truly historic on Duke's campus, and we're all excited about it.

Being a major college football fan, I have been closely watching Duke this season. They really have been an amazing team to watch. Yesterday’s game was well fought, and certainly a special moment for the Duke football program.

Duke will be a two or three touchdown underdog against Florida State, but that doesn’t really matter at this point. Many “experts” predicted in the preseason that Duke would finish no higher than fifth in the Coastal Division.

If Duke beats FSU, we might play in the Rose Bowl for the first time since it was held in Durham.

As a diehard college football fan, I can say that I hope to enjoy repeat success next year while a student. Also, the basketball team will have Okafor and Jones coming in. It would be an exciting year (sports-wise) to be a freshman!

But, let’s beat Florida St. on Saturday!

. . . and let’s also be thankful for a program that has been resurrected – principally due to Coach Cutcliffe – with Duke standards of excellence (selflessness and sef-discipline, emphasis on academics and comportment as well on athleticism, teamwork and team respect, principles of upperclassmen leadership, and so forth) to ensure this is not a single season phenomenon.

I’m a huge football fan and this makes me happy. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to aspire to be another Stanford. It’s very possible with the success we’ve been having thus far.

Speaking as a Knoxvillian, Coach Cutcliffe is a GREAT coach and a very good man. All the best to Duke in its remaining games.
