<p>Microsoft Word does not count footnotes into the Word Count. So, if the maximum word for essay is 800, then your word count would be solely based on the text and exclude those in footnotes? </p>
<p>I know that bibliography doesn't count... But I wasn't sure about footnotes (I thought it did not count)</p>
