It’s looking like I may end up at Wake and I was wondering how a non-drinker would do socially here? I plan on rushing but tbh drinking and vaping and smoking and everything make me pretty uncomfortable. I’m usually fine because I just don’t go around it when it’s going on. I’ve started hearing that Wake is a bit of a party school, so I’m getting kind of nervous. How do you think I would do here? Is this stuff really unavoidable? Will any sororities take me if I don’t party much? Thanks <3
Wake does have a party school rep but that is certainly not everyone. Rush doesn’t happen until second semester so by then you will have a good grasp on which sororities are more into drinking. There are several sororities where plenty of the girls aren’t drinkers so that should not be a problem. Additionally, the school, and student union, do a ton of activities for people who aren’t into drinking like trivia night, intramural’s, movie showings etc.
My D is a freshman who doesn’t drink. She joined a sorority and has plenty of friends who don’t drink and many who do. Not a current student, obviuosly, but I thought her experience would be helpful.
Omg yay!! That makes me feel a lot better that she was able to rush @marrast
You are going to be so fine!! I am a freshman at Wake right now and I can tell you there are plenty of people who don’t drink! I’ve never been forced or pressured to do anything I was uncomfortable with! Wake definitely has a big party scene, but the students who go to wake are all really driven and intelligent which means that even the heavy drinkers will most likely be working really hard in the library too. I know it’s really cheesy, but it really is true that there is a spot and a group for everyone (or even multiple groups!).
My daughter is in a sorority, the girls are very smart - the average GPA is 3.6 which puts the majority of them on the deans list. She doesn’t drink and there are other girls who also don’t drink. Her sorority has mixers, date nights and lots of fun activities. There are some people who drink, but don’t worry if you don’t. Ask around most of the people at WFU know which sororities are the crazy party drug ones and which ones are not.
