Is 450-500 words too long for a LOCI? Thanks.
That’s a little long, yeah. Most are just a couple short paragraphs–the point is to reaffirm interest (and be clear: if it’s still your top choice, say so!) and update them on what you’ve been doing. That shouldn’t take 500 words unless you’ve been a whirlwind of accomplishment since you applied (I’ve seen a few applicants who were, so it’s possible).
mine was 1 page. i didn’t want to make it another essay because they have enough to read already.
My letter was both an update of new extracurriculars, and also a note of renewed interest. It was around 600 words.
Have you guys received responses from your admission counselors? I am worried that mine won’t be read.
They’ll read it, @SnapApp
I would keep it one page in length. I think psychologically it’s nice to send something that is all on one page. Remember, you already have a 15+ page file, and your application was good enough not to be rejected. The last thing you want to do is waste their time with insignificant information. I suggest 300-400 words. Only use more if you have significant accomplishments.
My LOCI was 375. While I haven’t sent it yet (sending next week), the admissions counselor may not respond to the email, but he or she will add it to your file/read it.
