I was wondering about this too...has anyone on here attended the different programs before?

Hey all,

As a staff member in New Student and First Year Programs, I just wanted to say that all of our DoreWays programs are a lot of fun. It's a great way to meet other students from different majors, backgrounds, and locations before school begins.

As for which program is the best? That depends upon your interests. Each program has a specific focus, so just choose the one that appeals to you the most. Leadership, multiculturalism/diversity, outdoor adventure, service learning, and team building--there's something for everyone.

Just make sure to register early as sessions do fill up pretty quickly! Hope to see you this fall at camp!

All of the programs are great, and they all provide great insight about Vanderbilt and its traditions. Depending on your interest, you can never go wrong. I am the director for the program, and from expereince they all fill up really quickly. Congrats on your acceptance and I hope to see you in August. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at dwayne.v.elliott@vanderbilt.edu.

Since Doreways student move itheir stuff nto their dorms a week early, do the parents come back after Doreways for the weekend before classes start (that would be regular move in day for freshman)? Or do parents generally move them in for Doreways and come back for parents' weekend?

i think your parents don't need to come back during the moving in weekend, unless you need them to. =D
are you going to doreways?
i have registered for that.

i picked kaleidoscope as my first choice..i read through the general information, but i'm still not too definite on what exactly we would be doing :

yea, exactly, i put the leadership one first. we won't kno what we are doing until July.

but, it says on the site that we have gonna live in the same camp during the nights, and the evening activities are for all the students no matter what activities we are doing. so, we are gonna meet so many ppl there. excited =D

see you there.=D

Does WilSkills fill up fast?

I originally wasn't going to attend any of the Doreways programs. None of them seemed really interesting, except for Squirrel Camp a little bit. I didn't hear about WilSkills until last week, and I signed up for it immediately. I'm kind of worried I'm going to end up in one of my bottom three choices. Oh well, it's all good.

Generally parents will arrive on Friday to help bring the majority of your items to your room. There are activities for parents during DoreSTEPS, so it would be good for them to arrive on Friday and the programs end for parents on Sunday morning.

Currently WilSkills is full. If you registerd before May 5th, you have a good chance of being in the program.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to email me at dwayne.v.elliott@vanderbilt.edu. I am the director for the program. Spots are filling up fast, so you should register really quickly.
