? for engineer grad students

I am considering switching from Industrial Eng. (undergrad) to Mechanical Eng. for grad school. If anybody has any other switches, I would like to know how the transition is. For example, is it harder than undergrad because its grad school and you don't have as much background or is the major just harder? I'd like to know your thoughts.

Also, does anybody know the top 50 mech. eng. grad programs? I know the top 50 overall from usnews, it doesn't tell me the top 50 by major though.

Engineerer,

It may be difficult, or it may be fairly easy, in your case it would depend on where you are transferring and what you want to study in graduate school. If you've had undergrad coursework in that area then you might not have to take any extra coursework - if not you may need to take extra undergrad coursework. For instance, say you are going to study thermal systems in graduate school. You likely don't have a lot of advanced coursework in this area so you would probably need to take a course or two. Some programs are desperate for students and they would take you even if you didn't have the perfect background - as long as your grades were fairly decent.

I see, although I'm looking to go into dynamics and controls, I have alittle background in that area but I would assume I would still need to take a few more undergrad classes upon entering grad school to cover the necessary deficiencies. My gpa is ok, 3.33, I am looking to go into UPenn after graduating from PSU, hopefully this helps since UPenn isn't as good as PSU engineering. Does anybody think this is possible?
