For HIgh school Model UN geeks

Hey guys so I really love MUN, I’ve been doing it since freshman year if highschool (sophomore now), and I just wanna see if there are any other delegates here!!

Hello!

Hey!

I wish I was in MUN, but our school doesn’t offer it. I’m considering starting it, but I think I’m going to establish DECA, because some other people are creating a club similar to but lesser known than DECA. But if you guys are gonna talk about MUN feel free to because I’m pretty interested in it.

Excuse my lack of knowing, but what exactly is DECA? I feel like I should know it but I don’t

Hey guys, our last conference for the year is coming up, and my Model UN team and I wanted to get our advisor a gift . Do you guys have any gift ideas (besides a personalized gavel)???

@hipsterical It’s a model business thing? It’s really big at my school, but I’m not particularly interested in it. Maybe a cool globe for your advisor? I don’t know, I’m bad with gifts.

lol he already has a globe, but I think we’ll jest get him a gavel and a card… But I think I’ve heard DECA before at a conference in New Jersey! it seems okay

Yeah, it’s a business version of MUN in a way…DECA does competitions in which participants apply business knowledge.

Hey!

Hello!

So I have My first security council MUN in 2 weeks and I literally have no idea what to do ~X( Have you guys ever been in a security council before? and if so how was it?

@hipsterical I had no idea what I was doing when I was about to join a model UN council. You’ll get the hang of it after you see what people do.

@indicium_owl lol yeah, it’s not my first conference but usually I always do the general committees. But this time my teacher is making me to a security council committee which is supposed to be really really advanced.

@hipsterical only been in SC in workshops before (and some of the people in my workshop had no idea what they were doing >.<), but read up on lots of current issues for open agenda & have solution frameworks thought out for them. Also, try and sound more confident than usual. Also, if your conference does crises, be ready to improvise. A lot. That depends on the reputation of the conference you’re going to, though. Smaller ones are generally loopier–I’ve seen committees “kill” delegates before and bring them back in as other people (although that’s generally more common with historical security councils and crisis committees).

I love MUN! this was my schools first year and so ive only been to 4 conferences even though im a junior. Where i live each conference is scored a little differently so i can never figure out how to get an award! One conference scored the number of times you spoke and not the content, but another scored it the exact opposite! Im so frustrated all my friends keep winning awards excelt me

I’m going to be joining MUN next year as a junior  apparently most of the school gets into it, which is really cool! what can I expect?

Competition.

@Julie3 Totally! Most of the conferences I’ve been to never tell delegates how they’re going to be scored :)) But After having gone to 4 conferences, I just try to to better than I did the last conference, and take notes from the delegates that do place  But It’s so great to see another MUN lover!!

@ihavenoideawow Yeah, there will be a lot of competition  But it’s really fun, expect to be take out of your comfort zone…MUN is truly a lot of different things and you really just have to do it in order to get lol if that makes sense
