I got a 730 on the biology E and was thoroughly disappointed with my score (sorry if that offends anyone). Can you high scoring members give me some advice on how to prepare to get a 770+ test in November, including any books or study materials that would be recommended in achieving this goal?

I have a question too. Is a 760 on Bio M good enough for Ivies and stuff, or should I retake?

^From what I’ve heard, 750+ on any science SAT subject test is a sufficient score for top colleges because the curves are harder than tests like math II. What did you get on your SAT I because I think those scores are more important. Also, what books did you use to study for this biology test?

bump…10char

well,i can give u a valuable advice:
i prepared hard with PR and got 600
i prepared hard with barrons and get 700

NOW ITS TIME TO PREPARE CLIFFS AP BIOLOGY TO GET 800.YES!

I think having an Ap bio background really helps. I selfed AP Bio with Cliffs this year (still anxiously waiting for my score!) but the subject test seemed easy in comparison. I used Barrons to study for SAT subject test and the tests were pretty similar to the real thing (if not slightly harder). The Barrons has all the information nicely laid out, which is important. But beware of typos. My score: 780.
And yes, 750+ is very good for Ivies
Everybody said that June’s test was really hard (But I can’t comment on this, since it was my first time this June). So maybe if you study a bit more over the summer, you can get 750+! I recommend watching Bozeman Biology or Khan academy on youtube :)

Take AP bio. If you can’t, take a subject test that you have taken an AP in. That’s all I did and I literally didn’t even study for the SAT bio test after I had studied for the AP test a month before the test (I took the AP exam early May and then I didn’t even look at bio except for 15 minutes the night before the test). If you need an AP bio prep book i would get cliffs. The SAT test seems pathetically easy after you take the AP test.

Credentials: 790 Biology M

Shoot, @mmafanatic9 are you a rising senior? if so, taking ap bio probably wouldnt help much. sozz.

@risbu yes I am a rising senior but I actually took AP bio this year and got an A. However, our class was extremely behind and we only covered the first 33 or so chapters of the Campbell book so I had to self study a lot for the AP test and didn’t really prepare for the subject test. Should I just study out of Barron’s biology and take practice tests or is there any other books that I should use?

hmm…I got a 780, if that’s an ok score, and I used the Cliff’s AP bio review book

Definitely do the prac. tests of Barrons (and read it haha). Sometimes there are questions that were not even remotely mentioned in the reading. Using Cliffs AP is good, but keep in mind some topics in there will not be covered in the subject tests (DNA replication details). I guess you’ll have to use your judgement on that.

^thanks. I’ll definitely go over the Barron’s book (I’m assuming you used the newer version) and probably the sparknotes online guide as well. One last question, did you take M or E because I heard the M curve is more lenient and I’m thinking of taking that one next time.

^ACTUALLY… I used two versions haha! I used the 2nd edition of the newest one ([Amazon.com: SAT Subject Test Biology E/M, 2nd Edition (Barron’s: the Leader in Test Preparation) (9780764142031): Deborah T. Goldberg: Books](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0764142038)) and I used this REALLY OLD one from my library (i think the barrons was from like 1994!) so you may wanna check out the library. I wrote in my book but erased before I gave it back. But it’s not, like, necessary to have an older version book. I was just there one day like two weeks before the test and i was like “hey well i might as well get this, since it has 5 freakin practice tests.”
- anyway* back to your question. I took M. I did the E part just for practice (untimed) and I got like half of it wrong haha. if you plan on going into medicine, molecular is the way to go. Colleges prefer M (although publicly they say they have no preference)

I got a 710 on the Biology E in June. I’m mostly going to retake it in November. What should I do to prepare since I’d like to get a 750+. Or should I prepare for the Biology M test, since I’ve heard it’s easier to score high than on Biology E? Thanks!
