I want to become an orthodontist but I’m not sure what I should major in. Could I major in psych or would that be bad? What should I major in? I’d prefer to do psych but I am willing to do what is best for me. Thank you.
To be an orthodontist, you have to go to dental school.
Dental school is like med school in that it really doesn’t matter what you major in; you just have to take the pre-dental prerequisites. Each dental school has their own prerequisites, but the American Dental Association provides a summary of those here. Most colleges have a set of pre-dental classes that they recommend that will allow you to apply to a wide number of dental schools.
Other than that, you can major in whatever you want - so if you want to major in psychology do so! Psychology is a pretty popular pre-dental major; a friend of mine from college was a psychology major and is now a dentist.
Thanks! I know I have to go to dental school I was just making sure a psych major wouldn’t look bad or anything.
