For parents of passionate, talented students: a recommendation

This past week, our family went to my son's Precollege/Registration session at Ohio University's Honors Tutorial College. I don't want to go into too much detail, but I have to say that I am even more sure now that I was before that this is EXACTLY the program for my son. (For those interested, PM me and I will give you any of the details you want to hear about.)

OU's HTC is extremely competitive to get into; they only accept 60 students. Your stats get your application in the door, but from then on it's demonstrating (via essays, recommendations, portfolios, and finalist interviews) that you have the deep passion for your stated major. The benefits are incredible and the opportunities as an HTC student are great. They have a staff ABSOLUTELY COMMITTED to making sure of the success of each student on the program. There are many ways they do this, but just one example is HTC's Office of National Competitive Scholarships, which actively seeks out opportunities for major national scholarships and grants for the HTC students. They are the second most successful program (after Penn State) in the nation at attracting these scholarships.

The list of benefits and perks for the student are endless, but my time there last week has convinced me (actually I was convinced before, but this really solidified it) that my son has found exactly the right fit for his abilities, interests, needs, and personality. Not to mention that if a student qualifies for HTC, he/she will also qualify for some fairly generous merit money from OU.

So, this message is for those parents of talented, passionate kids that are in the hunt for potential colleges. Please take a look at this program. Absolutely incredible, but the thing is, you won't really know how incredible until AFTER acceptance.
