I came from AP English Language and Comp with a 5 on the test and an A for the class. I couldn't go wrong for some reason. But now I'm in AP Lit, and I just got several 5s on my take home essays (failing grades in my new teacher's class). He consistently says that he dislikes my writing 'voice' but never really gives me any concrete ways to improve my writing. How is someone supposed to write in AP Lit? I always took a conversational but organized tone with the AP L&C class. Is this the wrong way to go?

The thing you need to know (which is what I'm learning now in AP lang) is that every teacher has a preference in writing style. For example, my teacher like absolutely horrific essays with no thesis, 2 sentence intro, huge words no one can understand, foreshadowing words, 6 paragraphs, and a very stable, well thoughtout conclusion. However, my teacher last year liked 5 paragraph essays with a nice intro and conclusion, Very strong supporting details, no BSing, and a point that doens't go off on random subjects (which is what my AP lang teacher does). So it's not the class in particular, it's just your teacher trying to get you to use their style rather than let you use your own style to show your true creativity.
