Cool......

any helpful essay books I should read???
and do schools that seem like a reach for you increase your chances if you do their individual app. compared to doing the common app.?

No, there's no difference.

I'm already familiar with colleges' application forms and essay topics since I was very involved in both my sisters' application processes last year and three years ago. I'm working on my essays this summer, and I have everything else ready for the rest of my app (activities list, jobs, honors, community service, intended major, etc) already.

oh for the major part do you tell them your possible interests or just choose undecided if you can't just pick one?

Now, I want to start a series of topics concerning the details of some possible colleges we all want to apply for. I will need the input of all information you know about a specific school and in the end we would be able to get a very diverse insight of what each college really is (for those of us who don't have the luxury to pay campus visits).

Every week we will start of with a new school, and we will need the input of all college bound seniors on CC. Let's work together and build a master list of detailed information about each institution before we make our final decisions and send our applications in November/december. Besides, it's always good to KNOW your enemy before the final battle (or in this case enemy or friend).

I'll start off today with one of our most beloved schools: Princeton University. So, what do you know about Princeton?

http://www.princeton.edu/main/

AHHH today was my last day of school YAY!!! I can't wait to start this whole process. I'll try to get some apps done during the end of summer ( at least the ones for potential ED/EA), although who knows how much time I'll have to actually sit down and do them cause I've got get started on my EE ( my spanish teacher asked me for a draft once we got back to school) and I have a few meetings with my music teacher who is helping me organize a few ideas I have for a song.

princeton...I love it. The only turn off I have is that there are no double majors, so I'd guess I'd have to choose if I want a math or an econ degree ( I know they have certificates..but lets get serious, they are definitely not the same).

I'll be visiting georgetown and penn during these vacations so I'll try and take pictures. Maybe we could set up some sort of site with college pictures (something besides the typical pics in the brochures), and general info for those that won't be able to visit.

that's a great idea! a picture site that show cases the major colleges in color.

There's that whole thing about Princeton eating clubs. Part of me loves the idea, part of me hates it. Can we get any input from people who have experienced them? According to Princeton Review, Princeton is in quite the suburban location (and my dad says that the area's really gorgeous). I'd love to see some ACTUAL photos of the place (as opposed to the beautiful ones that are splattered in every college viewbook).

I love the idea of the weekly college thing, Jimmy. It's a fantastic idea! :] If anyone wants any pictures from Stanford, I'll be there six days a week this summer and can take pictures of anything that I can legally take a picture of. If anyone has any requests, feel free to PM me.

Pics from Princeton:

I know they all look really gorgeous, but I that's the best set I could find online.:)

Chillaxin. yeah some pic of stanford would bre great seeing as I won't be able to visit at all.

Jimyy- maybe we could get help from one of our fellow CCers that run webpages to help us out with the pics idea

I'll put up some links around the end of next week then. :] Thanks for the Princeton pics, Jimmy. Gosh, does anyone else have this insane, burning desire to go to Princeton after seeing those pictures? I sure do.

I went to jsa summer program at princeton last summer, and I have a very good memory of that place. Esp. the Catholic church, with its grand neo-gothic archetectural style. I always go to that church alone so I could read the fellowship of the ring just by myself.

chillaxin- hahah I know what you mean. What a gorgeous campus!!!

wow chillaxin -- could you take some pics of Stanford? tks!! That's one of my top 3 that I'm currently thinking about but I can't personally visit the campus (see location). The pictures in brochures are too misleading...lol =p Any pics would be great, thanks!

ok, i've never actually been to princeton, but the overall suburban area is just that, suburban. it's not a great college town , tho probably a little over an hour into the city (sorry, the city is always New York if you're from nanywhere but south jersey and Philly if you're from south jersey)from there. it's kind of on the border with south jersey, which in many ways resembles deep south states (although I haven't been there, in south jersey some people lack teeth, have a drawl, and work on farms and stuff, but i would say the region may be better economically. i would guess that south jersey is less picturesque as some parts of south) but for all intents and purposes, it is most definitely in civilization.
i'm not trying to bash south jersey people, i'm just tyring to give you an idea of the surrounding area. i would estimate pton is about the same distance away from philly as from nyc.
o, and if you're from nj, i've heard it's way tougher to get in.

Another year of high school.... rolls eyes

Visited Princeton last February.

The obvious doesn't need to be stated. :)

If you guys are lookin for pictures, check this out too. They don't have all the schools, but certainly have a lot of them.

http://www.ecampustours.com/

I just spent the last three hours in Princeton just walking around and shopping. They have some damn good ice cream.

The campus really is as drop-dead beautiful as it looks in pictures. I've gone with my friends just to walk around and drool at the beauty of the architecture. But the village surrounding the school has less to do, and there's much much less in the towns around it (where I live). Oh, and everyone is very, very preppy and rich around here. Not just the students, but also the residents. I just went with two friends. One of them bought Dior sunglasses, and the other bought Chanels, and it was no big deal to them. (In case you don't know, they cost about $300 each). Oh and you can always find some punk kids skateboarding around or something.

Guys we made it. Junior year was tiring, tedious, but ridiculously fun. There were times of pain, intense cramming, but in the end, we pulled it out. Grades, SATs, APs, sports, other extracurriculars, whatever else was in our path -- we managed to fight through it all and finish strong.

We have earned our summer. Relax, and have some fun before you start college applications. As for me, I have a week to party before leaving for CHINA!

Congratulations to all and I wish you luck in the future!
