This thread is esp. dedicated to HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS who still have more than a year to prepare for college and its admissions process. It is a place for juniors (or rising juniors) to share their feelings, goals, concerns, and most of all-- GOOD SOLUTIONS and LONG TERM FORMULAS that can help most juniors (including me) to get into the institutions they desire.

hey fellow juniors? Don't you feel bad about being here and not having any ACT or SAT scores to show. Heck, we haven't even done the PSAT yet! I just keep thinking that maybe i will a 1800 and then I will have to throw out every thought I've had about college. Most of us are taking our first AP classes too. hehe my 4.0 could go to a 3.5 really fast! Ooooooo I'm getting scared just thinking about it all. But I got mail from UChicago! Woot! I replied by the simple calculation that it shows interest in the school to their adcom.

By the way, I'm going to become a junior by sept 2005, and I really want to start this college admissions process as early as possible.

I already have a vague list of schools I want to go: Princeton, Yale, Harvard, Georgetown, NYU, Cornell, Stanford, GWU, UC Berkeley, Waterloo (Canada), Mcgill (Canada), and Queen's (Canada).

I am a Canadian citizen, yet my virtual goal has always been set to the elite U.S. schools. Here in Canada, one could consider me as a person who actively participates in ec's and community events. I work at a local police dept. part time, and I also work as a member of the Canadian army reserves part time. At school, in my sophomore year, I tried two times for our student gov't elections and I lost both consecutively, yet I'm going to try again next year. I will also become an executive member of our district student council in the upcoming junior year.

I am also a kind of person who's really REALLY into Canadian and US politics, and international affairs. I volunteered various times for both the liberals and conservatives during federal elections. I also participated in the Junior Statesmen of America summer program, a month-long summer school which includes a series of debates and politcal analysis lessons held annualy at Princeton University. I am also planning to open up a Junior Statesmen foundation club at a our school in Canada next year.

And after all, this is me. Feel free to comment on my current performance or to simply post something about yourself.

Well, I haven't done my ACTs or SATs yet. I'm going to become a Junior by sept. But I'm planning to take SAT I first the october session, although this is not my biggest concern.

If you are just starting I think you had better get a list of schools that have rolling admission - and apply in september. (but not before me)

Here's a question: what does "rolling admission" mean?
and by the way, I am going to BECOME a junior by sept., and that probably leaves me a year till the actual admissions process starts.

rolling admission means that there's no admissions "deadline." You can send in an app whever, and they usually get back to you pretty quickly.

Anyone have a link to a good thread or website to all the schools with rolling admissions?

Do universities like harvard/yale/princeton look at my acedamic grades in my sophomore year? If yes, to what extent?
(I just finished my sophomore year in a disaster, with only 6 As, and one acedamic course getting a B, but I was enrolled all in honours classes, so...)

You are crazy. Of course the college looks at sophomore grades. And 1 B is not a disaster. You sound like a total idiot

lol. . .how harsh. . .

I just took an SAT practice test on collegeboard and got a 2200 (750, 740, 710), so I'm happy for now. The math curve sucks, 3 wrong, 740. I got 4 wrong on CR and got a 750 though. I'm thinking about Cornell and Chicago, but I also kinda like Duke and Dartmouth. Who knows, though, there are still 1.5 years left!

The math curve is definitely harsh...I took a different practice test and got a 740 for getting ONE wrong and omitting one.

So how many APs you guys taking this year? I'm taking 4, which I was really scared about until I read about people taking like 6-7 on here lol

3: Calc, USH, English Language

you people are disgusting. DO NOT START THINKING ABOUT WHAT COLLEGES YOU MAY APPLY TO UNTILL THE END OF JUNIOR YEAR. This is coming from a guidance counselor who had an article about him a few years ago in the NY Times discussing how he's arguably the best college counselor in the nation. Your opinions on what you want in a school will change drastically as junior year progresses. I still vividly remember a conversation i had with a good friend of mine in spring of sophomore year. I told him there was almost no way in hell I was gonna apply to any ivies, and that almost w/o a doubt I would be applying early to MIT. Well I ended up not even visiting or applying to MIT, 4/7 schools I applied to were ivies and I will be attending one this fall. As you take AP classes or other advanced classes in high school you will discover things that you thought you liked when you were only doing the intro stuff you now no longer like.

Oh yeah, the OP taking his SAT in october, awful, awful idea. Why take it earlier than you need to. I guess if you do well, great, but if you don't it will only tempt you to do many retakes, which will hurt your chances. And if you've been studying all this time for it, that's pretty disgusting.

Junior fall was probly the best semester, because after that it's **** untill senior spring. So don't rush yourself.

I am an incoming junior, ready to take my first AP courses (3-4!), although the advanced course thing isn't new to me (I was in the TAG program, if anyone is familiar.) I took the PSATs last year, and am taking them again this year. I'm not too worried about that--it's the REAL SATs that are freaking me out!

What is the best way to prepare for the SATs? Would anyone recommend taking the ACTs as well?

Any rising Juniors taking the new SAT on November or December?

I'll be taking the SAT II Spanish Test in October, and the new SAT in November or December (I might back out on the new SAT though, haven't completely decided).

As for the AP's, I'll be taking Spanish Language, English Language, Biology and maybe U.S. History.

lol, lowest grades here are 3 As, rest A+s...

Good luck juniors.

Just know that its after this year when you will realize if your dream college is realistic or not. During freshmen, sophomore year, anyone can cry about Harvard, Yale, Princeton...

Stay on top of things. Don't pull too many all-nighters, study hard for SATs, and remember, caffeine is your friend.

;)

hey, DARKRULERIII, where can you take the college board practice exam? Online?
