What are your reasons?

Mine is that none of them have my major.

-some don't offer undergrads very good experience (too focused on graduate students)
-I'd rather try to score merit aid at a slightly lesser college/university (save money for possible IVY graduate school)
- Helps keep college GPA up for med. school

To me the term "Ivy League" is just a name. Nothing more, nothing less. I would never consider a college to be inherently better than another because they are in an organization with a few other good colleges. What stops other colleges from making their own "Oak League" or something?

EDIT: I'm not saying I won't even consider Ivy schools (ignoring the fact that I wouldn't be able to get in any of them), just that I wouldn't consider an Ivy school any higher than another school with a good reputation.

I'm only considering Brown, Dartmouth, and maybe Princeton, the two former because I liked them when I visited, the latter because it's supposed to be more undergrad-focused (I haven't visited). I'm not applying to Harvard, Yale, Columbia, or Cornell because I don't think any of them would be a good fit for me.

would it be better if other school formed their own leagues...for example, if the "Oak League" consisted of top notch souther schools like Vanderbilt, Tulane, etc.? Or is the whole "League" thing overated anyway?

I doubt it would increase prestige, but it would be hilarious.

I applied to one ivy just for the hell of it and realized right after i applied that I did not want to go there. The Ivy League just isn't my cup of tea for undergrad. I don't think that there is enough attention given to the undergrad students and I personally wanted to be in a smaller, less competitive environment. When I go on to grad school I will probably apply to Ivies but I realized pretty early on in the game that they weren't the right place for me.

im glad to hear from ppl who feel this way. it's hard to express myself on this forum with a milliom ivy league wanna be students bashing me for my un-embrassiveness toward the ivies. they are excellent schools but they are not right for everybody.

how many of u people actually got into ivy league schools and what other schools u get in to. The fact is ivy schools are the absolute BEST in this country on many different levels

^im not applying...they dont have my major.

Whatever, skibob. "Best" is subjective; Harvard certainly wouldn't be the "best" school for me.

well see that means nothing. Harvard doesnt care that it wont be "best" for you because it will be best to about a million others including the people who give u jobs

So basically, skibob is saying that th eivies will be the BEST no matter what. That's true, but this forum is mainly about why ppl DON'T apply to ivies, and they're reasons.

Anyone else?

sorry about the careless speeling errors. i apoligize.lol.

Because only people who went to ivies have jobs?
icekiss is right... let's not even debate this further.

skibob,

I sure you also own the absolute best car, clothes, watch etc...

Everybody has a values system.

Sometimes those values compensate for a lack of something else.

i dont no what ur arguing about. It is pretty much an accepted fact that if you go to an ivy league school u will have more oppurtunites immediately after u graduate than say if u go to Penn State or even something like U of Michigian. Ivy leaguers can screw up these opportunites and students from penn state can make the most out of theirs, but after u graduate from an ivy u will have more doors open for you

so we agree to disagree.

i disagree with that. college is all about what you make of it. My friends dad turned down harvard for a state and made the most of it and that's why he's one of the most reknowned doctors in the state and country. I know many ppl from top schools who work their asses off to get internships and co-op's and end up landing jobs before graduation.

but lets just make this clear....i am not arguing with u...just agreeing to disagree

Well, my grades weren't high enough. I'll probably apply to yale for law school...just to see if I can get in.

i want to apply to yale too for grad school but def. not undergrad. they have an excellent drama program.
