For those appealed their Financial Aid

Hi, I haven't received my Financial Aid Letter from CMU yet, but I've already seen my financial aid package on my website and want to appeal.

So, for those who did get their Financial Aid Letter, what were the instructions for appealing? As in forms that need to be filled, additional info to be included, and methods of communication (fax/mail) etc.?

Any info on this will be much appreciated!

Thanks.

888888,
There is a formal Review Request form that you would need to complete. If your CMU award is not competitive with your other PRIVATE offers, then you are instructed to fax copies of those awards for evaluation. According to the form, last yr 623 students submitted reviews and 378 received favorable responses with an avg increase in aid of $5,398. The fax is 412-268-8070. It also states: "Information received on or after April 30,2008 will not be reviewed." Questions can be addressed by calling 1-800-821-9285. Good luck...

archermom,

Thanks a lot for the info! I still have one quick question though. Afterwards, how were you contacted of the decision to increase in aid (and how long after you appealed)?

Thanks.

The official Request to Review form was included with D2's FA offer...which included all the above info I provided. We are not planning to ask for a review. She received her packet on April 12th while away visiting her colleges.

They said they will get back to you within 48 hours.

Thanks for the input. Hopefully I will get my financial aid letter next week.

I saw my change in aid on the web site (Where am I...) a week after I faxed in the request, and then received the formal letter a few days later. So they will respond to your request either way, I believe, and will send you a new financial aid award letter.

I saw my change in aid two days after I sent the appeal. The letter will probably come by tomorrow. I have an additional question though. Is the increase in the financial aid package due to the appeal only guaranteed for the first year or all four years? I received an extra $9000 institutional scholarship (as shown online), but I'm worried they might not renew it next year.

I got the same thing aproov. It's renewable with a 2.0 Gpa minimum I believe.

Lozz, are you willing to say how much of an increase you received? They did not match my other offers...

10,000. I don't think I'm gonna go to CMU tho. Will probably end up at NU.
